Recycle for Education: RRR (Reuse Reduce Recycle)- Toilet paper rolls
Being a pre-k and special education teacher I knew we always had some interesting ideas on what we could do with certain products. We have to think and re-think what resources we can use and sometimes without spending any money.
Today I will be focusing on recycling toilet paper rolls:
What skills will be used?
When doing the activities the following skills will develop:
- Planning skills: The learner will have to plan ahead what they want to create with the empty toilet rolls.
- Visualization: The learners' visualize their plan on what they want to create.
- Creating: The learners use the visualization skills and planning skills to create the product.
Activity 1: Be creative
You will need the following:
- Toiletpaper rolls.
- Pipe cleaners
- One whole punch
Instructions:
- Use the one whole punch to punch wholes into the toiletpaper rolls.
- Place the toiletpaper rolls and the pipe cleaners on the carpet or any other place where they can build and pay.
- Then let them be creative
The kids will come up with a lot of interesting and good ideas, here you will see what interesting ideas they do!
Activity 2: Pirate toiletroll
You will need the following"
- Toiletpaper roll
- Paper to fold the hat.
- Paper to cut out the hair.
- Use your koki to draw in the eyes, mouth etc.
Instructions:
- Fold the hat to be put on top of the toiletpaper roll.
- Cut out the hair and paste it at the correct place like at the top.
- Draw in the eyes etc.
Activity 3: Tower constructions
You will need the following:
- Toiletpaper rolls
Instructions
- Place the toiletpaper rolls on the carpet and let the children play and use it to construct any form of item.

- Ordering numbers from big to small/small to big.
- Reading numbers
- Making a number roll.
- Sorting according to numbers
- Practicing your numberbonds
- Introducing time: Make a watch
- Make an addition game
Language
- Create word rolls
- Create holders for your sightwords
- Create wordfamilie roll tubes
- Teach children the correct order of the alphabet by making this alphabet monster
- Learn your lower case and upper case letters.
