ACTIVITIES TO DEVELOP SELF-CONCEPT AND SELF-ESTEEM IN CHILDREN

We understand by self-concept the characteristics or attributes used to define oneself. We understand by self-esteem the positive or negative assessment we have of ourselves. It comes from the value judgments that others transmit and from the experiences of their possibilities and limitations. For a long time we know that an adequate level of self-esteem is necessary - and the basis - to be able to maintain a good mental and physical health of the organism. Both are two of the elements that make up the personality. Hence the importance of an adequate development, since it is in the infantile stage where the bases of the human personality are felt.
On the other hand, I understand the personality from an integrated perspective, which assumes that affective development is systematically related to the rest of the planes: cognition, psychomotricity, language, etc. and that, therefore, what affects the personality will result in the other evolutionary dimensions, favoring or inhibiting them. The infantile personality is evolutionary and is constructed in interaction with a suitable means for it. This means is the nursery which should promote the development of a healthy and balanced child personality.

ACTIVITIES THAT DEVELOP SELF-CONCEPT AND SELF-ESTEEM IN CHILDREN

1. Hidden treasure box:

The teacher hides a mirror in a box and explains that inside there is a unique treasure. "We will generate expectation thus", adduces Tarrés. The students will open the box one by one, without telling anyone what it contains. In the end, the teacher will ask them to say aloud what treasure they have seen, and ask them what they think makes them unique and special, unrepeatable, wonderful.

2. Today I teach you:

The aim is to organize mini workshops in the classroom taught by the students themselves, to which the rest of the class can sign up. The small teachers will design their workshops according to their own interests, showing, for example, how to do a magic trick, how to give many touches with the ball without the ground falling, how much they know about a topic that they like.

3. My photograph:

Photos of students encouraging them to write positive characteristics of themselves. Under each picture, after finishing the activity, you will be greeted in the classroom to set the mood.

4. My virtues:

All students should draw a picture with their face and put below characteristics that describe it so that they know each other better.

5. This is how I am inside:

In this activity the children will make a mental map where their photos are and around they will place the characteristics that best define them.

6. Role plays:

It is demonstrated that they have a fundamental role in the emotional and intellectual development of the child, becoming one of the best educational games that exist. Some are:

• When inventing a story, situations that have not occurred in the reality of children, use a language that they have always heard but have never come to use.

• The art of interpreting and putting oneself in the shoes of other people allows children to adopt different points of view, developing a great flexibility of thought.

• By having to collaborate together to make the game go well and everyone knows what to do, children learn to work in teams and a sense of responsibility.

• Fulfills children's wishes to socialize like adults.

• They can have an image of how they want to see themselves in the future, this helps their self-esteem.

It is very important that boys and girls have a good self-concept and a good self-esteem since they will be more active and active, they will have greater confidence in themselves and, therefore, less difficulties in establishing friendships and in generating affective bonds with other people.
I would like to point out that adults exercise a fundamental role in the formation of self-esteem in children, not only for their own education, but also for the responses and attitudes we have with the youngest children. That is why specialists recommend that, a good option, is to convey our feelings, and help them, individually and personally, are able to discover for themselves that they are loved, accepted, and above all are admired by as they are and worthy of respect.

thanks for supporting my work

Really useful. I have never seen the hidden treasure box before. I will absolutely be using that in the coming weeks. It is so simple and so beautiful.

One way that I develop esteem in my learners is to take part in the learning journey with them. I become the learner, asking the questions with the students. We search for the answers together. This way students become experts, over me. Through this I see a great development in confidence.

Thank you for the amazing post, I definitely have some expanded ideas now for future activities to help cultivate self-esteam.

THAT GOOD THAT YOU LIKED, SURE YOUR STUDENTS WILL LOVE YOU

haha, I'm not a teacher, I'm a father - it's still just as relevant still and helpful.

this is how home schooling is the most important, I apply these activities with my daughter at home.
