In the process of learning and teaching in schools or in various other institutions, they all possess certain ways of educating students. If in the process of learning the teacher is only to convey what is written in the book with simple delivery, meaning not deep or mediocre, students certainly will not be easy to understand and examine the lessons given.

Then there needs to be a thing called the learning strategy. What exactly is the definition of "learning strategy", and should be implemented by teachers in the school in teaching a lesson to the students.? As well as how many kinds of learning strategies which are often and must be used by the teacher?

Definition of Learning Strategies.

Broadly speaking, the word "strategy" has meaning as an outline in acting to achieve a predetermined goal or target. In education, the strategy can be interpreted as a means of teaching selected by the teacher in delivering the subject matter to students with the aim to achieve a good quality education. source ]

To be clearer, Let us refer to the definition of "learning strategy stated by experts:

• Dick & Carey

According to both of them, learning strategies are things that consist of various material components and learning procedures and the stages of teaching and learning activities practiced by the teacher when educating or teaching students. It doesn't stop there, Dick & Carey also added that the learning strategy also contains programs and material arrangements that will be delivered to students. The purpose is to achieve good learning goals or results.

In his book entitled "learning strategies" (2007), he argues that the strategy of tracking is a pre-learning plan or before learning activities take place which contains various series with designs to focus on the objectives is planned. [ source ]

Not much different from the three education experts above, other experts also think similar to them, perhaps the only way of delivery is slightly different.

Some Types of Teaching Strategies

a. Expository Learning Strategy

The first type of learning strategy is "expository teaching strategy", this strategy is more about how the teacher delivers the material well. The teacher delivers the material verbally to students in the class so that they can master the lessons delivered by the teacher optimally. In this strategy, the teacher has a very important role in the class.

b. Inquiry Learning Strategy

In contrast to the above strategy, the inquiry learning strategy emphasizes students for critical thinking and analysis, this is useful for them to find and solve answers to the questions given. The thinking process itself can be sharpened and enhanced through a scheme of a question and answer (Q & A) between teacher and pupil. Inquiry strategy often also called heuristic strategy, derived from the Greek language "heuresken" which means "find". [ source ]

Conclusion

In addition to the two learning strategies that I summarized above, there are also several other strategies that we can apply in the process of learning & teaching. Among these are "problem-based learning strategies, contextual strategy or contextual teaching-learning (CTL) and effective learning strategies.

Learning strategies can be interpreted as a general pattern of activities involving teachers and students in realizing the teaching and learning process in order to achieve a predetermined outcome. Applying a strategy in the learning process is a must for all teachers, the aim is to optimize the learning process and the second is to make students become more active in learning.
