Unit Fraction and Its Importance in Operations on Fractions
When a fraction has its Numerator 1 and its denominator any whole number more than 1. For example 1/2 is a unit fraction. Similarly 1/3, 1/4 and 1/9 are some more examples of unit fractions.
Can you think of some more examples of unit fractions?

Each fraction can be decompose as sum of unit fractions. For example; 2/3 can be written as 1/3 + 1/3
With this concept in mind kids can start adding fractions very easily.

A unit fraction is a rational number written as a fraction where the numerator is one and the denominator is a positive integer. A unit fraction is therefore the reciprocal of a positive integer, 1/n. Examples are 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 ,1/5, etc.
