4TH GRADE MATH - METRIC SYSTEM OF MEASURMENT
Metric System of Measurement
Metric system of measurement is based on base 10 counting system and as a result the conversions among units are easy. Most of the world uses metric system of measurement. Below are the basic metric units for Length, Mass, Capacity, Time and Temperature.
Length
Meter (m) is the basic unit to measure length in metric system. There are converted units of length from meter and common ones are millimeter (mm), centimeter (cm) and kilometer (km).
Capacity Or Volume
Basic metric unit for capacity or volume is Liter (l). The derivatives (converted units) of liter are again milliliter (ml) or kiloliter (kl).
Mass (Weight)
Basic metric unit for Mass is Gram (g). There are derivative of gram as well and common ones are milligram (mg) and kilogram (kg).
Time
Standard unit of time (in all systems) is Second (s). The derivatives are minutes and hours in common.
Temperature
Basic metric unit for temperature is Kelvin (K).
Below are some links to useful pages on metric system of measurement and conversions to the derivatives.
United States and the Metric System
For meter, kilometer and the like, there is the alternate spelling in some places where it is
-re
instead of-er
. Examples include metre, kilometre and so on.Right, spellings are interchanging and I used to use -re version back in India but now get use to write -er here in Canada. Thanks for supplementing the post with your valuable inputs.
Don't forget that the metric system is based on multiples of 10 which makes it easier to count.
Unlike 12 inches = 1 foot, 3 feet = 1 yard and so forth.
That's right my dear friend! Base 10 system is easiest when doing conversions!!
Mathematics is all about measuresment and Conversion.
It is very important chapter in a methematics. Students should do practice of this conversion continuously for make the basics strong.

Thanks @mathworksheets for sharing this post.
Pretty awesome post @mathworksheets.☺ The Real Purpose of Math Is I have a variety of answers, but usually, it's straight-forward, much of the math we learn is applied to real-life situations, and the ability to do it ourself with no need for a calculator makes sure that we're independent of technological devices to a point.
Thanks for sharing.
