Sometimes It's Nice To Write A Letter

Sending people hand written letters is becoming a lost art. In the age of email, texting, and social media, people rely on technology to communicate with family and friends. Technology offers neat formatting options to create messages to others with a variety of styles. With phones and computers messages arrive within seconds of hitting the send button.

Even though technology dominates how we communicate in written form, hand written notes can still be wonderful ways to keep in touch with others. Taking the time to write a letter by hand can be meaningful to the recipient. It shows you took time to stop and think about them and put effort into the words you wanted them to read. Receiving a letter in the mail from a friend or family member can brighten a person's day and gives them special words from you for them to cherish. Below is a little story to illustrate the fun and joy a hand written letter can bring!

Sometimes It Is Nice To Write A Letter

Toby the bear cub wanted to do something nice for his friend Daisy. Daisy was sad because she had a cold and her mother wouldn't let her go outside to play. Toby missed his friend and wished he could cheer her up.

Since Daisy couldn't come outside to play, Toby decided to write her a letter telling her all about the sunshine, the green grass, and berry bushes he saw while playing outside. If Daisy couldn't come out to play, Toby would send her a letter with a little outside experiences inside of it.

Toby got some pencils and paper and wrote Daisy a long letter. He told her to feel better and get better quickly so they could play in the forests together. Toby felt really happy writing the letter and hoped Daisy liked it.

After he was finished writing, Toby put the letter in an envelope with a stamp and Daisy's address then walked to the post office. He enjoyed going to the post office and seeing all the mailboxes, letters, and packages that would be traveling all over the world! The mail carrier who took his letter was pleasant and friendly to young Toby. He was impressed to see such a young cub writing a letter instead of using a computer.

Toby walked home to wait for Daisy to receive her letter. Toby was excited and couldn't wait until it arrived. Since Toby and Daisy lived next door to one another and five minutes from the post office it would take a whole day to be delivered! That was a long time to a little cub but Toby knew the wait was worth it to make his friend smile.

The next day...

Daisy was feeling better in the morning but she still had some sniffles. She was sad because her mom wanted her to stay home one more day to rest. Poor Daisy! She wanted to see her friends and play outside so badly. Being home was boring.

Daisy was surprised when her mother gave her a letter the mail carrier delivered! Who could it be from? Daisy was excited to get mail. Little cubs never get mail and Daisy opened the letter with a smile. She read the letter sent to her by Toby and was so happy to read about his time outside playing. Daisy was thrilled to know her best friend was thinking about her while she was trapped inside sick. It was so thoughtful of him to think of her and take time to mail her a letter.

Later that day Daisy's mom let Toby come over for a visit. Daisy hugged him and thanked him for the letter. Toby was happy to see she was cheerful and enjoyed the words he wrote. Being sick is hard and Toby gave Daisy a unique gift by telling her all about the things she was missing so she could be part of his adventures playing out doors.

Moral to the story: Hand written letters can be a nice gesture

Taking time to write hand written notes/letters still has a place in society. Technologically sent messages can be impersonal to receive. Taking time to write out thoughts, feelings, memories, etc. is more meaningful and personal. Sometimes it is better to convey feelings like love, missing someone, happiness, and more with a letter sent through the mail. By using pen and paper you are showing someone you took time to think about them and made an extra effort to write and mail a note to them. If you don't want to write a long letter you can send a postcard, photographs with a note on the back labeling the moment, cards, and more. Sometimes receiving a brief message through the mail saying you were thinking of someone is enough to make someone's day!

❤️ I love sending and receiving snail mail

Well said. Now a days we don't send hand written letters. In fact, we have gone so far in technology that we have forgotten about hand writing letter.
I like this blog. Following you.

People love to get stuff in their actual mailbox. Cards are a great way to brighten people's day. I use SendOutCards (www.sendoutcards.com/68681) which allows me to create my own cards using my own pictures and write my own messages ... there is even a font made out of my handwriting ... and mail them with a real stamp for around $1.50 which includes the stamp. Check it out at the website above ... it's fun and easy ... and guaranteed to make someone smile!

I still do, I send letter to my nieces in Argentina, for every birthday since they were born. I know they wait for them!

My grandmother prefers hand written letters. My penmanship has been horrible for years to the point I just don’t try anymore. Sometimes I’ll mail her a letter in a fancy font. I’m not sure she is aware!!!

That and a phone are only two ways to commutate with her. Hates email and texting.

hahaha, I LOL'ed at this "Sometimes I’ll mail her a letter in a fancy font. I’m not sure she is aware!!!"

Same as me. I think sometimes its nice to write a letter. When i feel wobbly, i so like to write a letter haahah LOL

I love this. I used to work so hard sending real letters to people. I could spend a whole day on one letter, and then that feeling when you leave it in the box, knowing they will love it. Thanks.

Awww
I am having cold too and stuck inside.
Woul appreciate to read a hand written letter of some friend right now :)
