Hello, Dear Steemians!

How are you doing! Today is my first day in my class and I learn a new subject for me, it is Statistics. I love to share this. At first, I am wondering what is this? and what should I do to answer the question in the exam? Although this is my first day to attend the Statistics class but I think about the exam. Lol. What I learned today, it's about the types of statistics, the definition of basic statistical terms and the scale of measurement and so on.

First of all, I got that the statistics are a science of collecting, simplifying and doing an analysis on a data. The statistics also help us to make an inference to draw a conclusion based on the data that we analyzed. For your information, the statistic is a systematic study of variation in data, how to measure a data, how to display and use the data. There are two types of statistics, which is Descriptive Statistic and Inferential Statistic. I will explain the Descriptive Statistics first, it about the study that deals or involved with a set of procedure consist collecting, summarizing and present data in a convenient and informative way. To present data using this type of statistics, we need to use graphical techniques and the numerical techniques to summarize the data. So, in this type of statistics is really focus on two things describe and summarize data sets. The other one is, Inferential Statistics this type of statistic is concern about the decision making or to make a conclusion about the population of interest based on the properties obtained from a sample. And it also focuses on the technique that used to draw the conclusion about populations from a sample data.

There several terms of basic statistic , the first and foremost is element, an element is an experimental unit or an object such as people or things. Next term is population, for your information population term is a set of all the possible observations of some specific characteristic. The third one is sample, we can describe "sample as a group or a subset that has been selected from the population. Census, the census also one of the terms of the statistic, we can describe the census terms as a study that conducted to measure a variable for every term in the population of interest. Next, Sample survey, the sample survey is a study that involves subgroup of a population. Variables, this term also an important term in the statistic, the variable is the measure of the characteristic of the population that the researcher want to carried on their study. Data, data is the characteristic value of an element it is divided into two different data, Quantitative and Qualitative data. We can describe the quantitive data in numerical form and then the quantitive data also divided into 2 part descrete Quantitative data and Continous Quantity data. Descrete quantity data can be obtained by counting scene and the data also can be measured precisely. Continuous quantative data is a data that only can be approximated to some degree of accuracy and we measure continuous quantitative data by using measuring devices. In data, there also Qualitive data, qualitive data is a data that in non-numerical form such as gender and blood types. Parameter, parameter is the summary for all of the population. Last but not least, statistic, summary measure for a sample.

Scale of measurement:

  • Internal scale : The different between data values are meaningful but it cannot be manipulated with the multiplication and also the division. Internal scale also a values variables that can be measured by the difference and distance.
  • Ratio : Starting point, and it can't be (-ve) value and we need to take the absolute value or zero point like weight and height.
  • Nominal Scale : Things that can be identified and catagorise like gender and races
  • Ordinal Scale : Value that indicate a things like a level of satisfaction

Summary

Today, I learn a little bit about the statistic definition, types of statistic, some of the basic term of statistic and the scale of measurement, but there are a lot things that I need to know in this subject. Thanks for reading guys.
