Most of us have heard of schizophrenia but fewer are clued up on Koro.

Koro is a belief that your penis is actually shrinking and could retract deep into the abdomen, causing sudden death. There have been many recorded instances of penis-shrinking panic, where the afflicted could be seen gripping their penises, rushing towards the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.

Before you reach for the tape measure, let's unpack Koro, a psychiatric disorder. The sufferer experiences immense anxiety, shame and impending personal doom. This disorder is more prevalent in Asian and African countries where, oftentimes, magical beliefs are embedded in the culture, but a Koro-like version has surfaced in Europe.

Why do they think their penises are shrinking?

Most ancient cultures include folklore about vanishing genitals and curses resulting in impotence. They believe a witch, or prankster arsehole, will steal genitals for their own nefarious reasons (or a good laugh). People have actually been lynched to death after being accused of stealing or bewitching someone's penis. This is especially tragic as the victim's genitals magically return to normal when either the witch is dead or they are examined physically for evidence of a penis.

Many epidemics of Koro were triggered by rumours. One rumour was that pork had been contaminated with a penis-shrinking substance (are we feeling the depopulation vibe?). There were outbreaks of terror in people that had consumed this pork. In public, men were seen holding onto their penises in a panicked death-grip to prevent them receding into the body. Some had used clips or other devices, often resulting in some penile damage or general soreness. Some believe this was triggered by an evil person touching them, and contaminating them with a twisted magical curse.

I've noticed that men are often very attached to their penises. Traditionally, before all the confusion about gender, the penis embodied a man's sexuality, potency, virility. It was the organ from which he derived his masculinity. It was something to be proud of. These days, penis shrinkage is usually metaphorical, death of the male role in our society. Some think there is a depopulation agenda, the most notable being the hard-sell of veganism. The high instance of oestrogens, found in a plant-based diet, can cause penis-shrinkage and growth of boobies in a male. Many of these cucks even elect to have voluntary vasectomies to further emasculate themselves.

Whatever it is, the strong belief in something can cause immense havoc in the mind and – in the case of veganism – also in the body.

We're losing our men to a resurgence in beliefs that are destroying what it means to be male.
