A dad who believed that his son was being bullied. Was this true?
Any dad would feel upset hearing a child cry about classmates being mean to him. This boy's dad, Mr T decided that enough was enough, the teachers were not doing their job and he was going to fix it.
Mr T was surprised to find the principal a nice fellow who promised him that he would follow up and made a meeting date for next week. Mr T felt extra positive.
At the scheduled meeting the principal said that after a comprehensive investigation watching Jason in the playground, talking to the teacher, the classmates and Jason he could only conclude that Jason was the bully. All the evidence supports this finding. Jason goads the boys, calls them names, sabotages games and throws little stones at their feet until they tell him to go away. This is when Jason calls them bullies, threatens that his dad will come to school and the principal will punisher's them.
Mr T did not believe the principal and he rang District Office to formally issue a complaint. A formal investigation was carried out. This was a most serious situation. However, the report found no evidence of Jason being bullied and even praised the staff for their support of Jason.
It was at this stage that Mr T admitted to the principal that he had similar problems as a kid requesting assistance be given to Jason to help him get along with his mates. He liked the school and did not want to shift his son. This was when he heard about the social and emotional skill development program in the school. The grade 5 classroom teacher talked to him and Jason's mother, the aim of the program was helping all kids to develop social understanding, social awareness, relationship skills and social responsibly. She invited them into observe a lesson. They saw how interactive and hands on it was. The light bulb was switched on, they had a lot of making up to do.
Now Mr T and his wife talk to Jason about understanding his feelings and watching the faces of others to check out their feelings. They help him figure out how to play and get on with with his classmates successfully. They were thankful that their son attended a school that actually cared for kids.

Hi janton, I cannot honestly say because it is up to the school to bring it in. The principal and deputy are quite influential here as are super zealous support staff who are prepared to do the training. The statistics show that kids who engage in these kinds of programs do benefit greatly.
Howdy angiemitchell! Well I hope that all the schools adopt that program to help the kids and I doubt if we have anything like that here but we should.
