STEEMIT CULINARY CHALLENGE #32: ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ Tropics and Picnic... when a cheeky monkey steals your lunch ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’

SCC32-21.jpg

Picnic and the tropics don't seem to go well together! But it makes a good story and we had some great fun! Though I have had many lunches outside or on the road, we never really have been on a real picnic. Thanks, @rebeccaryan for this challenging topic! @menta, @forrestwillie and I sure had a great experience on our first picnic try-out!

As soon as we spread the blanket and put everything on it, a big long-tail macaque appeared out of the bushes. Though we have been living in the tropics for the past 3 years, monkey encounters are quite rare. We see them very often, but usually they stay at a distance. But not this one!

SCC32-22.jpg
No table mannners whatsoever!!!!

Totally baffled by his sudden appearance, we didn't know what to do! Monkeys have big teeth and can be very aggressive! Especially when this big! So he sat down with us and grabbed what he could.

Every time we tried to save or take something, he showed his fangs and we stepped back. At one brave moment, I was able to pick up of the whole blanket and save what I could to resume the picnic on the motorbike.... but there was no stopping this monkey.

SCC32-23.jpg
He had his cute moments too!

SCC32-24.jpg

He jumped straight up there and stole some more food.... Jumping on the brand new secondhand bike we bought the day before was just one step too far for @menta. So he had enough of the rude picnic intruder and bravely picked up a stick and chased him back into the jungle.

SCC32-26.jpg

A few minutes later the bushes behind us were moving and we spotted at least 10-15 other monkeys... luckily there was only one big and brave enough to walk up to us! Damage could have been much worse....

DSCF3974.JPG

The damage: 2 mangoes, all the roasted cashew nuts, and the meatballs! Though some of the foods were touched by the monkey's fingers we were too hungry to care and let all the yummy foods go to a waste hehe!

While the no-other-people-spot seemed just the better idea, lesson learned next time we'll go to the main, monkey free picnic spot too!

Hehe he was indeed! Last mangoes of the season hehe! Thanks @chanthasam for your support!

The monkey is now on its tail because she could not forget the taste of the food. She wants more.

looks like Cambodia still? I've had the keys pulled from a running motorbike there and a small altercation ensued with the monkey who also tried to steal my camera gear. Monkeys are like squirrels on steroids - never to be trusted. Always impressed with your creations!

Thank you so much @timelapse! Yep! Still in Cambodia! We love it here! And the monkeys are indeed not to be trusted! Always make sure you have something at hand to treat your stuff back.

Nice - are you in Kratie by chance? Jol Mui @amy-goodrich

Nope but planning to go there soon now that we have the new bike ;) Are you in Kratie?

Not currently, but I've been there and was with CMAC on an outing to blow up some UXO... glad to know you don't travel in minivans from hell!!!!!!! The worst are out of Snuol.

All of it looks amazing! So jealous! Wish I was that monkey! Hahaha

Hehe! I'm sure we will have the honor to cook something together one day ;)

Wouldn't that be awesome! Hopefully it happens sooner than later :D

She feels at home. Seems like shes invited. :)

It really looked like that, isn't it? If he would have been a little bit more on the sharing we would have let him join! But there was no sharing with this one! hehe.

Maybe he can trained in the future and be a friend

How I would love to have them as friends.... monkeys belong in the wild!

Its a possibility :)

I would've let the monkey hangout and eat food lol, that's so cool though. All the meals look super healthy and really good. I like to see healthy living!

Hehe! he wouldn't let us close and sit next to him :( Thanks for your comment! The food we could save from the monkey hands was really good and healthy.

That monkey looks uber healthy though! Haha, idk when was the last time someone wrote of this. Lovely pictures and especially the meatballs. Fun fun funnnnnn! Cheers!
