Ulog #2- Through The Back Of The Property's Edge: Queen Anne's Lace, GIANT Burdock & Motherwort
While taking my chocolate lab for her morning walk to sniff the property line and see who's been near her home, I noticed some new plants to the south of our property; as well as some other known plants that were growing and blooming beyond belief. So I decided to show you all what I saw.
I spend most of my mornings, after a few steemit tasks are complete, walking through the garden, property's back edge and greenhouse. EVERY day something new is growing, blossoming and being discovered... so come along with me today.
Queen Anne's Lace
Queen Anne's Lace are considered to most to be a nuisance and has become an invasive weed; but it does add a nice elegance to any wild flower garden. You can eat the root of this plant/herb; just make sure to identify it carefully and make sure it is NOT poison hemlock; which is similar.
Queen Anne's Lace also has similar features of the flower to yarrow; with the main difference being the petals.
I used my cell phone app called Picture This to carefully identify this plant. I took various images from different angles to verify the plant's name.
Plus I smelled the flowers and a distinct scent of carrots wafted into my nose. So definitely Queen Anne's Lace.
Motherwort Is Flowering
Earlier this year while everything was coming to life in the early spring, I discovered we had Motherwort growing at our property's edge near the creek bed. Since 2018, is only our third summer in this house and on this property, I am still finding ALL new kinds of wild plants and herbs, as well as some beautiful wild flowers.
I had harvested some Motherwort back in May and made a tincture from it. BUT NOW! This normally ALL green plant has grown more and developed gorgeous little purple flowers!
See my post Accidental Backyard Foraging Discovery to learn more about this plant/herb that some consider another nuisance to gardens; but I find exhilarating and thrilling to have on my property.
MAKE sure to watch my DTube video to see how tall one of my Burdock plants has gotten this year! I was amazed! I am 5'10" and it's taller than me!

Hi There, high summer and dogs ( and the app 😂 ) offcourse makes is look at nature different. Today I took the kids too an we saw a New white flowers to which he picked for me. Loved the story and it similar to my day today 😉
Nice tuesday
Motherwort is invasive on our property but I don't mind. The honey bees LOVE her more than any other plant on our property. I am guessing that I just need more motherwort in my life. :)
howdy this glorious Tuesday @goldendawne! you are such a walking, talking, typing Botanist! is that the right word? a plant expert? and how you know all this stuff and what plant is what I have no idea, I couldn't tell you what we have here except grass, poison ivy and cactus! wonderful job as usual and with great photo!
I see someone going onto her second ulog huh. :) Those are some pretty nice flowers and I thought the Anne's Lace wasn't bad cause it looks really fluffy and nice. We do not have these sort of flowers in Malaysia, so this is my first time seeing em.
Queen Anne is nice.. the issue is if you confuse with Poison Hemlock; that's why I did about six different pictures uploaded to my app... wanted to make sure. I didn't pick any of it... it's along the edge of the property on the OTHER side that I rarely walk through. Guess I need to start walking that way more frequently.
Yeah... I am kind of liking the ulog posts.. it's my every day life that I can share!
Oooo, becareful when u walk the path less taken. :D
yea, basically ulog is gonna be about YOU. Your story and your diary. People like me can get to know you more :D
We like to cruise around our property looking for wildflowers, too. My father is a botanist, so I often txt him a pic of the new ones so that he can identify them.
We have an over abundance of Queen Anne's lace this year. I did a post on it a couple days ago.
My sister planted motherwort in 1992 in the herb beds. I am still finding it all over the property, even though I've not grown it for well over 15 years. Around here, it's one of the "invasives" where things like comfrey are not.
That is very interesting @goldendawne. We have several of these growing around our homestead and, like most plants, we always thought they were just weeds. With the help and knowledge here on steemit, I have been able to learn that they are more than just weeds and that they have very helpful uses.
some of my favorite wild flowers,I love seeing them on walks.
Hey @goldendawne, it is so cool how you have so much wild herbs and plants growing in your property. You make growing stuff look so easy. Some people just have a green thumb and unfortunately I don't seem to be one of them! Hahahaha!
Wild flowers don't know they are a nuisance. Lol. Not sure how they can be. They have beautiful blooms, in most cases. In comparison to 'hot house', nursery plants they often spread naturally, tend to themselves. Less fuss.
Not sure why we pull out wildflowers to plant different flowers. Hmmm. Glad you have them surrounding the sniff areas.
