Is there a new GIANT platform on the horizon threatening the existence of STEEMIT?

in #steemit7 years ago

Over a hot beverage I was browsing the mainstream media news about cryptocurrency and I came across a few articles that is talking about an upcoming project called EOS. I tried to find out what it stands for but as it turns out it is not even a proper acronym...

  • Ethereum On Steroids
  • Endless Online Scaling
  • End of Silence

But obviously it is about the elusive ETHEREUM...

My understanding is that ethereum is a decentralized currency like steem, and they have these things in common:

  • Steem and ethereum are not mined
  • Ethereum is and Steem are produced by block chains
  • Ethereum are handled by producers as steem is handled by witnesses

But is it a threat to steemit? I am not sure at this stage. The EOS platform is not here yet. But it is getting a lot of attention as it is making claims that is is going to solve ALL OF THE CURRENT PLATFORM PROBLEMS. That is a BIG PROMISE...

During the EOS startup. Block one has made a lot of glorified public relations about its claims, it is creating a lot of hype with t-shirts, mugs, and baseball caps. And it is advertising on the times square jumbotron and getting a lot of attention.

So where is it? It is still conceptual and does not exist yet. Yet EOS is attracting initial investors raising funds to the effect of one billion EOS tokens.

There is a lot of speculation in a lot of people. Thinking whether to invest in this or not. Well that depends on perception and there are many. One of them is that the Chief Technical Officer is Dan Larimer.

Larimer has been praised for his fearlessness and non-conforming ways he approaches projects. And at the same time he is scorn for the way he handles exits the same projects he was praised for. And that is talking about the bitshares and steem projects. It is said that he exits projects abruptly and leaves them without a direction.

Nevertheless he is a cryptocurrency veteran and have made great achievements in 2014 in bitshares and a decentralized exchange. In 2016 he launched the steemit platform and was praised for creating the concept of users being able to be awarded monetarily for producing good content. And more and more criticized for the platform being unsustainable with the notion or perceived notion of scarcity.

Brendan Blumer, and his partner of Dan Larimer and CEO of Block One say that all the previous projects serve as building blocks for EOS.

What Bitshares has achieved

  • horizontal scalability
  • transactions speeds of 100000/s

Steemit

  • interaction with the platform without incurring a fee
  • smart contracts

EOS wants to be able to do both of these things at the same time. But can this actually work when it does not exist yet? There are no specifics and not even codes yet. And so far there are no answers to any technical questions. A lot of people have the attitude of

Wayne Vaughan the founder and CEO of Tieran is of the opinion that people don't really know what they are excited yet. There is no mention of user applications and no technical specifics. Despite that he is giving Larimer the benefit of the doubt where other people won't.

So what a mixed bag.... Like man I am excited, and like many I want to know more. And at the same time there is the inner struggle for not leaving it too late,l and yet don;t want to jump into something I do not understand enough of. Many people out there give a certain reaction when contemplating EOS.

Sort:

Seems like EOS is more a replacement for Ethereum than STEEM.

I might start getting worried when a social media EOS based app overtakes STEEM in the Alexa web ratings. Until then ...

How long do you think that would be. An opinion only of course.

And any chance of resteeming this for me?

I added a $3 upvote to your original article

I saw that thanks :)

I do not think he completely abandoned Steem and bitshare did he? These platforms are still doing pretty well and receiving the needed developments so I dont see how those projects are abandoned.

What I saw was public perception and he himself said that he does not think he has abandoned....

He believes he gave steemit the right tools before he concentrated on other projects...

Would not have happened without him and is still going strong.

Any chance of a resteem from you?

And on my first say you were saying some help was coming my way :). Any news on that?
