I couldn't sleep and I suddenly realized SteemIt is perfect...

in #steemit7 years ago

What we have is a voluntary society filled with people who earn something of value through some sort of contribution.  It is up to the entire community who receives rewards for what type of contribution.  The society can never be "broken" it is just a reflection of the values of the people currently engaged in ths society.

Each person pays others a value based on their ability to pay and whatever other criteria they want to consider.  Each person can only give away whatever share they own. Since we all own our share we can use whatever tools the society builds or provides to earn for themselves and distribute future earnings.  Nobody can force anyone to use a tool or not use a tool.

One person might think quality is the most important thing.  Another would want everything orderly and neat.  Another might put the priority on a specific type of content or behavior and choose to reward that.  Some might like everything to be even and fair, while another likes competition.   Some people like things bright and colorful and they don't mind a bit of a mess as long as it creates something interesting.

I think you see where I am headed.  I think after a year and three months, I have finally accepted (again) that everyone here has their own agenda, their own goals, dreams and fears, and desires to push the site toward our own visions.  It is just that many of us have a different vision.

The tools we use to shape this space are our votes, flags and voices, and suddenly completely sober at 1 am it seems so simply perfect.  Don't worry tomorrow I will be controlling, judgmental and tell you how I think you should act again.  (in order to meet my goals) lol.

Will it be successful?  I don't know, I guess we all have different visions of what success is.

Okay, tell me why I should accept your judgment of what SteemIt is supposed to be....

Sort:

I believe many different people will have many different ideas of what Steemit is, and of what it will become. But that's one of the great things about this platform.

Those who want a logically ordered forum of in-depth, quality-content posts will work towards making that type of platform. Those who would prefer a site full of memes and quick news bites will work towards that end.

Most likely, both of those types will succeed to varying degrees, as will various other types. And all of them will co-exist side by side. That will ultimately make for a vibrant platform replete with all kinds of information.

Granted, that might include some (or many) posts of questionable significance or doubtful quality, but hopefully that kind of post will remain peripheral.

Full Steem Ahead.

Yes, I got frustrated with all the "shit posts" for a while also. Then I got over that and focused on some new imagined problem. That is part of how we attract different types of users, by being different types of users. :)

One of our tools is flags, so we can also use that tool to help move content where we think it deserves to be.

I see your point, and I approve of the designation "shit posts." But on this free and open platform, it's probably impossible to avoid them.

However, Steemit is a meritocratic platform, so most of those who post insignificant crap will most likely fall by the wayside. Hopefully.

I doubt that we can flag all those shit posts. I sure would not want to spend time doing that, and they may not even really be flag worthy.

Whatever, it seems that Steemit has enough people producing quality content, and they are the ones who will merit upvotes and Steem Power. Let's all work towards that end.

Sounds like a plan to me. The more users we have and the better our tools get, the easier it will be for end-users to create a custom feel to what we see. (I hope)

Right. And while now many of the quality posts get lost or abandoned in the vast STrEEM, we might be able to turn the tables, such that the shitposts get lost in a grand STREEM of quality posts.

Then, those Steemians who produce quality material will have good reason to remain on this platform, while those who don't will (hopefully) realize that there's not much point for them to hang around and earn only cents / week. Then they'll go back to F_c_Book.

Thereafter, Steemit will dazzle with pure brillance, or at least a very good semblance thereof. Onwards!

Well said. Everyone has their own agenda and everyone is angling for their own gain, which I think often gets misconstrued in a negative light.

For example, I think self-upvoting is perfectly reasonable. If what you're posting doesn't warrant your own vote, then why should it warrant anyone elses?

steemit is supposed to be the best content platform from the outlook

It is up to the entire community who receives rewards for what type of contribution

well it is but i guess 80:20 rule apply here, 20% of users decide about 80% of rewards :)

While it is true the distribution could be better, I guess it still reflects the opinion and goals of those who "own" it.

different society shaping the different worlds

That is why i do the things which make me happy :) and steemit is one of them

Well i do think that everyone has their own agenda but after the day we are all part of the community we should make our own contribution and enlarge it for the sake of the build up of the community even more !
Like they say more the merrier!

Steemit from my point of view was is and will be a great idea... there are certain issues in some postings, begging, etc. that need massaging, but this is an innovation that's time had come.

I think that Stimet should be at least for the fact that we are all people, and a person can not without society, and our society is created that would not just communicate, but also earn the right you wrote to someone you like. So the flag will put, someone will vote, on this all and keeps, we are all different, but a lot of us help each other. Do not forget about the general horizon. The knowledge that we receive from good posts will remain in our heads, we are still learning.
