The Steemit Flood Gates Might Be Open Very Soon: The Importance Of Riding Momentum And How We Can't Let This Opportunity PasssteemCreated with Sketch.

If you haven't seen what has been happening, steem is kicking ass and steemit is growing every day. We might be at 3$ soon. With the price going up like this and the prices of posts getting higher and higher, it could be the tipping point that leads to users flooding into the site. Or maybe it is the increase of new users talking about and bringing in other newer members that leads to a crazy rush of people. It could even happen when the signup process is made easier. If one or all of these is the reason steemit hits the momentum train, it is important that we make the most of it. Attention is hard to get in this market and when you have it, whenever it comes, you should not waste it. You might never get it again and if this happens to be the time when steem enters the spotlight, then this is the time we need react.

So what can we do?

If you are a member with a lot of SP, it will be a good time to look for new users and support their work. When people see they can get rewards from their work it will increase the chance of users staying. If people work hard to make content and see nothing it will discourage a lot of new users.

CONTESTS! This is a big one. Give users a reason to get involved and offer a lot of smaller rewards instead of big ones so more people will win. We can use contests for everything. Photography, writing, drawing, cutest pet, greatest food photo at a restaurant. The more the better. And we might need to help people find them so let people know in the comments on their introduction page or as a reply to your posts.

Comment. For members here for the community, they will be more likely to stay when they see people chatting about your content. This is something that anyone can do, regardless of how much SP you have.

Think like a new user. Why would you want to stay on this site? We are going to loss a percentage of people, that is normal, but let's give as many as we can a reason to stay and tell their friends.

Also for @ned, @steemitblog and @zurvanic. As the site is kicking ass, you know what you are doing but I want to tell you a story about a company called Tsu. It was a social media site that paid its users for their posts. They had two large momentum shifts. One when Facebook banned their posts and one when the ban was lifted. Traffic went through the roof. But then nothing happened. Weeks passed with no updates for the site or anything happening and people left. If we are lucky to get this kind of momentum, it might be a good time to shift focus, even temporarily, on welcoming and exciting new users. To let them know about the changes that are coming, let them test out new features, to do some advertising, whatever is the best way to make the most of it. The numbers are what matter for social media, and when the site has a large user base it will be hard to stop. Everything else can come after. Just my opinion :)

Is this the start of the mainstream push?

Steem is awesome but it needs to mature into the love child of Reddit, Facebook, Wordpress and Youtube by cherry picking the best bits of each. I love Steemit and am on here every day but it's a bloody mess and people can't create communities. Not sure what Ned is up to these days but Steem needs to get its shit together and get out of Beta asap, they have a great thing going but it's half baked. At the very least get some basic structure like Reddit and allow people to create facebook-like groups. That would be huge

Thanks for the great post as always!

I just celebrated my first 30 days on Steemit. Anyone reading, please check out my photography blogs. Thanks!

Congrats :)

well written post..thank you....

The mainstream push is here but the problem is its still a beta, the traffic this site will get will be huge how are the servers doing and stuff. Also, how will censorship be tolerated on a massive scale?

I'm not sure, it will bring in new problems.

I am really excited to be in the Steemit community. I just hope that the ideals that people hold now stay true when more people come on board. I think it is incredible that quality content gets rewarded. Let's just help keep it that way!

Agreed, I think when hf 19 get implemented (which will spread out the voting power) and more people get involved it will help with quality content.

Nice post! Thank you.

You are right. It is important to give every user a reason to stay.

Great post. It is inevitable I think. Best to talk it up, discuss and prepare for the masses. Lol

I really appreciate you're strategic thinking, geek. I am trying hard to get noticed as a newbie posting original content - any advice is welcome.
