It kinda confirms something I have been thinking for a while - witnesses should have to be followed by lots of people and upvoted lots and not flagged down very much. To get votes they have to talk to their voters more this way, rather than just the big wheels in the in-crowd.
But I think there is a lot of scope for wedging a bit of this cosy arrangement out of the new-steem-stream...
I am really shocked that a platform is not responsible to the users whatsoever and that they do not give any warning that most of the viewing of your hard labor are nothing but BOTS!
I'm simply too old for this crap to say it bluntly! I've spent so many hours just trying to figure out how to resize pictures, find a host site, uploading and on and on...only to have about 45 hours of work totally wasted!
Thanks for your reply..
For the most part there is no one "responsible" or "in charge" of the platform beyond the UI and programming it in such a way that it is useful. For the most part this is a self policing community. If you are not happy with something you voice your opinion and if you have the time form or join a group of like minded individuals.
Just a little insight on bots:
Just because a user runs a bot, doesn't mean they do not read your post. I freely admit I don't read every post that my bot votes for, but I also don't read every post I manually vote for either when I'm in a hurry and just want to show some support.
There are some that run "feel good" bots that upvote every post, some upvote on certain criteria, etc.
To be honest, I'd rather have users running bots (providing they are not upvoting plagiarism & scams) and distributing the reward pool rather than the reward pool going to a smaller group of users. If the pool isn't distributed to more users, less users would participate.
Not everyone has time in their day to read enough posts they would want to upvote in order to spread the pool. I don't. I also have another bot @zoee who follows me around and upvotes what I do. I originally created the account for mining but have since figured out it isn't profitable. If I get the money to power it up I'll use it to counter users abused by flags.
Some users that started out mining run bots to utilize those accounts like I do since mining is no longer profitable. Each computer used for mining had to have a separate account. So a person might actually be reading your post and all of their accounts are upvoting you.
My bot is set to follow someone I trust to vote on content I would approve up. Some of that voting power goes to Curie who finds posts that are undervalued and under appreciated. A lot of posts I've read because my bot voted for them I would never have found on my own.
There have been bots that have harmed the steemit community and designed to break the platform or devalue the price of the currency. Spam & Flag bots were common. Members created bots to counter the spam and flags.
