I completely agree with you, although I haven't noticed any stolen images yet myself.

If you're looking to find out a photo's source you can always try tineye.com or images.google.com to try to find it's source.

If you're looking for royalty free images then I'd advise pixabay.com (I'm always wary of the "royalty free" images on google just because I'm worried it was illegally reposted as royalty free), but I'm sure there are a whole bunch of sites dedicated to royalty free images.

Last, some uses are permitted under the fair use act, but the exact boundaries of the law are usually decided individually by a jury (so don't push your luck).

Pixabay is good. Wikipedia is usually pretty reliable too. As long as you're using them with good faith that they were available for use, you are covering your rear fairly well, I think. Take reasonable steps.

yes, that's really not nice, not fair and not good for the value of Steemet, that means negative for all those who post original pics and content.
Steemcleaners have their rules, as I understand they only can act when a stolen pic is used in a contest.
The last last times there is a group of specialists using stolen pictures what google picture search can't identify because they use pics which are very similar to many others like blossoms, for example or they use picture cutouts.
This will be one of the biggest problems for Steemit in the future, original content makes the value.
Best regards
Tom

Thank you viking-ventures. I reported @mycolorfulworld for stealing blog posts from my friend and food blogger cooking with manuela. It was appalling... @mycolorfulworld stole so many posts it took me 4-hours to flag them all and site the original source. I had to stop but willing to bet they are still at it. Was terribly upsetting to see this happen.

Now I ask @originalworks to site all of my entries @juliank's photo contests and all of my other posts as well. We have to help each other out when we see plagiarism. The @ steemcleaners did recognize the work that I did but its got to have consequences to those who are stealing others work!

Your post is appreciated!

Thanks for your reply.
How do you report the stolen posts? I know how to flag things, but don't know what more I can do.

One question I still have for those who have been around longer than I...
If I repost my own work (as I plan to do when I've been around a bit longer and have a stronger following), will that still be considered "originalworks" by their bot?

Fortunately, most of my original photos are also posted on my online stores, so it's relatively easy to prove that I'm the same person and only posting my own work.

Thanks again.

I reported it to @steemcleaners. Here is the abuse guide: https://steemit.com/steemcleaners/@steemcleaners/abuse-guide-2017-update#@fingolfin/re-realworldeats-re-steemcleaners-abuse-guide-2017-update-20171221t175750967z

And also there is a form that you fill out here:

Problem is that the form didn't work when I tried it and that only fueled the fire.

Not much good when their guide doesn't work. :(
I saw one earlier, high ranking too (like 57), blatantly sharing something published by another company. Beautiful picture, to be sure, but not theirs to profit from.
Thanks anyway.
