Indeed, the philosophy behind Steemit is promising, though I am not certain if the current implementation will work out long term it could revolutionize the way content on the internet is monetized and artists are encouraged to create. Ads just aren't cutting it anymore and paywalls do not work either. Unless you get bought out by a major corporation (and then there are questions of motives and bias), it is hard to keep a website running independently. Blockchain secured content paid for by cryptocurrency that users don't have to pay to start using/participating in the community may just be the future. We'll see, in any case something needs to change or a lot of content just isn't going to continue to be available freely!
