I've got i5-4690K @ 3.50 GHz, 16 GB memory, 4 threads, Linux Mint, getting about 28 Khps. Are there any tips or tricks out there for squeezing out a few more hashes?
for squeezing more, you need to overclock your cpu ("K" means that you can).
i5-4690K max GHz are 3.9

You could try to use intel turbo boost be careful when doing this operation
