🤔🤔Steemit fundamental flaws that needs emmediate attention! 🤔🤔

1. Inflation

2. The complexity of the system to learn for average person

3. Privacy options - there are none

4. Censorship/flag trolls.

The first is a major flaw that has been written about plenty of times. The second and third aren't so much a major flaw but are still hindrances to adoption.

The fourth is one that continues to be underestimated. Identify the attributes of the largest social networks, and you will see that none of them have a notification system that can be as easily abused as Steemit's flag system. That alone can destroy the platform's ability to grow and can even lead to its potential failure.

A scenario that will increase in likelihood when competitors see an opening in the market and see that Steemit team isn't taking corrective action. Think of it from a customer service point of view, and it's easier to understand it creates a marketing nightmare.

For every person that falls victim to these trolls, they will tell ten people they know to avoid wasting their time on the platform. That type of growth is exponential. In business, these are the kinds of ripples that gets CEOs fired in an attempt to salvage the company's reputation.

The flag system needs only a minor overhaul, but it's been over a year since these complaints have started to appear, and the team refuses to acknowledge that allowing any one person to take away the income potential and reputation of another at will, this is producing a major problem. It's insane and completely unsustainable.

@tinashe
1.) Impossible when every 2-3 months someone drops 50 Million USD to the market cap overnight (24.9.2017 5M, -29.9.2017 total: 60.1M USD +) (check coinmarketcap). We need that someone, otherwise Steem would be long time gone. Steem needs inflation to survive all horrific hard work having now with community developers and upcoming releases.
2.) It's not. Its less complicated than opening new Gmail account, it's just laziness and psychology of people to NOT READ instructions during that process and make 6-10 clicks. I'm sorry it would be insane reducing steps and letting bots and Bevs&Butt users to join network even more easy collecting something that other are earning for months.
3.) It has been built as total transparency (publicly accessible ANY information from the community done by community itself - nobody force anyone to post anything, so... ) with proof of block where content can't be edited or deleted (lost) after 7 days (payout). Whats the privacy then about ?
4.) Against 2nd point - Make one more step. That all new accounts cannot use wallet first 30 days internally on Steem (even though they can collect payouts). You will see how bots and hazard of community will be cleaned instantly.

  • Charge for registration of the account symbolic 1 STEEM in USD and signup with any exchange to process accounts.

That can collect more income for witness and full node production, development of a steem and increase security against malicious registrations against steem blockchain.

I completely agree we have a problem, but points you are making are not even biggest issue at the moment. Except 4th point, which is completely ok.

Actually steemit is extremely difficult to start using. I remember when I first registered I kept getting cryptic messages when trying to access my account (I wish I'd documented them now). I kind of gave up. A week later, I tried logging in again on a whim, and for some reason I got in. No explanation.

Once logged in, you have to figure out what the heck is steem, steem dollars, steem backed dollars, SP, SBD, your vote value, how long after a post to upvote, Steemd, steemdb, curation trails, what is curation, how is curation different than upvoting, steem.chat, steedit.chat, post promotion.

Then some post tells you to go to discord, that took me a day to figure out. At first I thought it was a scam because you had to send some Steem dollar to two or three addresses. Then you have to somehow sign up for PAL, through a command line command on discord. Once there, what's it for?

I could go on.

Then of course, it's a major time suck.

Ok, we can agree that once when you are logged in to steem there is no proper welcome how-to and documentation and a lot of spam in comments of welcome... So build documentation as landing page for logged-in account should be enough ?

I think there is one. I haven't seen the landing page for a long time. But I did run across it once, later on. I'm sure I'd seen it when I first signed in, but there is so much there, and I wasn't sure why any of that was relevant to me, I know I forgot 99% of it the first time I read.

Oh, and I didn't mention streemian.com, that's another one that's quite confusing the first time you hit upon it.

Well i appreciate your contribution well thought out.My biggest worry like you said is problem number 4 ,the rest like you and I alluded they are minor.I concur with you but what is the steemit Dev's doing to fix it?

Nothing... Unless some random dev doesn't come up with something it's not happening. I'm trying to say that community steem developers are already busy with the blockchain who is having some completely different updates than what you and me discuss here, but they have to do, or none of this points will matter if blockchain is not running well :)

Everybody here and there have to survive a flag, and it's an essential fact of life with some jealousy and butthead users will always be around. In general, the flagging isn't a problem. As to hard to use, ok there will likely be more and better features in the future. However, it is a blogging platform. It does take some common sense to navigate, not any 'average person' will just start making $$$'s from posts right away. However any 'average person' that makes the concerted effort, to learn the community, and to better themselves a little each day as a blogger –The platform is available to all. Trolls are part of life, privacy is kinda tough luck, make an anon profile ... that's the whole point, you can with just an email address and a SIM card....

it is a question as to how Steemit will ever handle takedown requests, when posts written to the blockchain cannot ever be changed, this is an interesting topic.

I'm most concerned about our data being stored indefinately in a distributed matter. If you happen to write something, and later on regret it, it's impossible to revert.

Its the blockchain and you can not Delete anything.

Yes, and that's what concerns me. If someone posts, say, information or pictures that more or less ruin your life, there's no way to take that back. On other forums, it's at least a small chance the data can be deleted or restricted, but not on the blockchain. When someone posts even fake revenge porn pictures of someone in your family, you'd very much like to be able to take those pictures off the internet.

That's why it's called BLOCKCHAIN - Once it enter a block, it chained to it and added to the exiting block prior

It would really help if people weren't so gullable. I see scammers that are getting lots of upvotes simply because of the stupidity of other people.

Since nobody seems to take the time to read anything anymore, let alone investigate stuff, these scammers get away with their business.

There is definitely info to be found on the basics of steemit, but no-one is willing to read it all, they all just want money.

I write things that sometimes are 'controversial' - and so #4 is and always has been a problem for me. I've written about this problem extensively - because even the big networks have a "Flag System Flaw" --- Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube as well.

at any time people can attack you on those networks; and falsely flag your account out of existence. It's a real issue that too many 'developers' continue to use, what I call Lazy Moderation.

This problem is everywhere.

@Originalworks is pretty good for determining what is Original content and what isn't ...

You did highlight some flaws of steemit and they are the truths this platform might be lacking. But i think steemit is the first and therefore leading in this social media revolution and we shouldn't expect a perfectly design system from scratch.

Where i think the real problem is; its when we are getting mature and aging but the system isn't. I believe with time and understanding the platform will improve and fix their flaws

For now, we can hope for the best
