How Did I Get On Steemit?

Normally, when I write a post about myself I use @themanwithnoname's history. If I haven’t developed that history yet, I have to make it up. It’s an ongoing process. However, for this post, I’m going to talk about how the man who writes for @themanwithnoname got on Steemit.
It was sometime around October or November of 2017 and I was looking for information on ASIC miners. I wanted to figure out everything I could about them as I was going into it rather blind.
- What are the most popular ASICs?
- What are the most profitable ASICs?
- Where do people buy ASICs?
- What’s the resale value?
- Are preorders a good idea?
These are just some of the questions, but during my research, I stumbled on a link to a site called Steemit. A guy had written an article on his experiences with preorders and I was eager to learn his perspective. It was written by @drcharles who sadly does not appear to be active anymore. I remember writing down his name because he came across as knowledgeable and I wanted to get more of his thoughts on crypto.
Anyhow, because of his opinion, I decided NOT to preorder the Obelisk ASIC miner for SiaCoin. The math had looked good, but he made excellent points about all the things that can go wrong. And boy, did they go wrong. If you didn’t happen to follow SiaCoin news, Bitmain came out with their own blake2b miner before SiaCoin and got it to market before the first Obelisks have even hit the market… like 6 months before! I would have lost a ton of money if I had bought the preorders, so I was glad I didn’t.
Even though I didn’t end up getting the miner, I still looked more into the Steemit concept. I liked that you could get paid for writing articles if they resonated with people. I liked the community aspect and that most of the people on here seemed like they were fairly easygoing folks. I was wary of the fact that everything would be store forever in a blockchain. Sometimes people say things in the heat of a moment and it’s nice to be able to go back and remove that so it doesn’t keep stirring up trouble.
However, nothing on the internet is ever really gone, so eventually I got over my apprehension and submitted my info for signup. If I had gotten over it sooner, I could have experienced a little more of that cheap Steem, but I still got in early enough that I’m miles ahead of many people.
Going directly through Steemit seemed like the safest bet as I didn’t know any of the other companies and didn’t want to have to buy Steem just to create an account. I waited the week plus, and then got approved. Honestly, I forgot about Steemit by the time my account was approved. I didn’t even realize that I didn’t have an account; I was just approved for one and still needed to create a username and all that.
Since then, I haven’t looked back. I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time on Steemit, reading articles and posting comments. I haven’t been very disciplined with writing posts, so I’m hoping that @dragosroua’s 30 day writing challenge will help me get in the groove. I will be travelling later, so it will be interesting to see if I’m able to keep up while I’m gone.

Yes, this did help to get to know you better. And if you spend an inordinate amount of time, I must spend a ridiculously extra ultra heaping amount of time on Steemit.
Sounds like you got the right information at the right time, too. Sorry to see that the person who got you interested hasn't posted in a while. Maybe he'll come back now that STEEM is back up again.
Or, he could be in surgery or something.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep up with this challenge either, and I have no travel plans whatsoever.
Thanks for lifting the curtain up a little on the man behind @themanwithnoname.
Yeah, we're all worried about you, @glenalbrethsen. :P Hey, if you enjoy it and if it's bringing you life, don't worry about it. As long as the bills get paid, it's all good! (Or something like that).
Yeah, I'm glad I found it. I've tried to get other people involved, but haven't had much success. The one buddy I got to sign up quit after his first post. That's ok though. Life goes on.
Hopefully the guy is the surgeon, not the patient, because 2 months is a long time to be getting worked on.
Other than Sundays, I see you succeeding on this one. Maybe you can just write the Sundays ones on Monday morning and then Monday's on Monday night. That was it's still close.
Sure, now you know I like crypto stuff. And that I don't always jump right into things.
I was thinking maybe writing Sunday's on Saturday night, but Monday morning might work, too. Since he'll read them the day after, though, and he's several time zones ahead of me, Saturday might be my best bet.
I haven't been able to bring myself to get anyone else involved for now. I'll probably have to come up with some kind of two week prep course just to feel like I adequately informed people what it's like around here.
Yeah, I thought ASICS were shoes. Shows you what I know. :)
If he has it posted early enough, you could write it Saturday night and then have SteemAuto post it for you on Sunday. That's if you want to get really fancy. However, I've never done that before, so I can't tell you how to do it or how it works. It's a "hope for the best" kind of thing.
Ha ha, that's funny. No, I don't do that much research for shoes. It stands for Application Specific Integrated Circuit. It's a specialized mining rig. Although, I should do a bit more research on my next set of running shoes. The last ones weren't great.
I'd go Nike then. Help out the local economy here (and some Chinese kids, I think). If not that Adidas. Maybe Puma. There's those cool shoes that have the toes, too, I've always wanted to try.
I need to get shoes with good support. Most Nike's that I've found have been really cheap and provide terrible support. I asked a physical therapist what to look for in a running shoe and he said to do three tests that are something to to effect of the following.
I got that from https://healingfeet.com/foot-care/how-to-choose-running-shoes-the-three-point-test, but the idea is the same as what the PT told me.
Well, I've never seen Cheetah come after a comment, so you're probably safe. :)
I was thinking, though, that's a pretty awesome physical therapist you have if they're talking about hamsters and pixies.
I'm not that much into running, so I wasn't going for that specific of a shoe. Just thought there might be some better brands than ASICS to wear. Maybe there's not. So you can get your mining rig and your shoes. :)
When I saw the snippet of your comment, I thought that Cheetah had come to visit. Fortunately, I can outrun Cheetah. All I have to do is survive longer than a few minutes. They have small hearts and run out of energy quickly. :) That and I didn't plagiarize. I just pasted it here with the link so that you don't have to go to another site just to see what I'm talking about.
Based on your comment it seems you did look at the post though. I probably could have found a better place to get the info, but it had what I needed so I went with it. I can't remember talking about hamsters or pixies with the physical therapist, but we did cover a lot of ground. When you go more than once or twice you start needing random topics to talk about. It gets you into "far out" space quickly. Well, at least if you're a talker like me. :D
I don't think ASIC is a bad brand. I had a pair of Brooks that I really liked. They worked great up until the point where a cat peed on them and I couldn't get the smell out. I washed them, but it didn't help. They had been getting old anyways, so I let them go.
I probably should get an ASIC miner and a pair of ASICS. I could take a picture of them together. :)
Thank you sir for sharing your experience but where is the money for the preorders. I think it will be safe with me.
SiaCoin has the money for the preorders. They're still planning on sending out the machines, but they won't be as effective. People certainly won't make the amount of money they were expecting. It probably would be safe with you. Safer than just sitting there while someone else's ASIC is mining away! :/
Mining is not really my thing because of the poor electricity supply in my country, investing and trading cryptocurrency is far better for me if the money should come.
For now, my focus has being the steem platform
That makes sense. You need to have a reliable source of power for it to be successful. If you're having power turn on and off, you're probably better using a laptop than desktop even. Makes sense that you'd want to trade. Hopefully the taxes aren't too bad.
Yea. I just hope things turn out better for me. Thank you brother.
Sorry, didn't want to dust you, so I re-voted. ;)
I remember looking into the whole sia obelisk thing too. Pretty sure the same article kept me from getting involved! Im curious how the 30 day challenge will go for you. Ill be checking out what youll write, good luck!
That's interesting that you found the same article. I'm really glad that I didn't do it. I remember I was rapidly approaching the deadline and I wanted to get one as the numbers looked really good, but the caution that he talked about is what made me decide not to do it. I was already hesitant, but that pushed me over the edge. I wasn't going to risk thousands of dollars not knowing if the product would even ship, or be made to specs.
Thanks for stopping in!
Exactly what I was thinking at that time! It all seemed too good to be true! That article saved a lot of ppl a lot of money I guess :)
Glad you're here!
Thank you! I'm glad to be here. I've had some ups and downs, but overall the people with whom I interact on a daily basis are really nice! Thanks for stopping in. :)
Your story on how you get to know about steemit platform was a bit similar to mine, bit all the same finding out about this platform is one of the best thing I will say that has really made me a more active and better writer .
Steemit is a community of like minds of people sharing their passion for something in the way of creating valuable contents and also by engaging with others, but the best part is that we gets paid some money for what we love doing. Talking about the 30 days writing challenge @dragosroua I think I will try to be part of that challenge and see how I perform as a content creator. Thanks @themanwithnoname for this your purposeful and informative post
I'm glad that it has been a positive experience for you! It has been for me as well.
Thanks for stopping in! :)
