Optin/Opt out Feature ideasteemCreated with Sketch.

Currently user are talking over the idea of optin / optout.

What would this new feature include:

  • Opt in means you allow the rshares of everyone to effect you in positive or negative ways.
  • Opt out means opt out of rshares effects of any up/down vote and flags from a person.
Opting out will still allow up / down votes, flags by a user but not allow them to effect users posts that have opted out of their participation on their account. That way plagiarist and content that should be brought to the attention of the public can still be seen as marked flagged. Some users would love to have the choice to choose who they are rewarded by and who who can effect them.
This would also apply to comments and replies a user makes on the Steem blockchain.
This is basically a blocking feature from selected users having any effect on your account or posts.
What are your feelings about this idea or what do you think could be added to make it better?

ok, so @bigbadwhale opts out of all the other whales votes.

He/She then post a test post with 39 test comments and upvotes them all. Everyday.

Now what ?

doesn't matter at all because all the minnows can flag it and a single whale circle jerk is not profitable

opt in / out is the only solution circle jerks r nothing compared to user retention
so a few whales collude to only upvote themselves. when the entire rest of the community 100% flags them they will have to write a bot to opt out of every user and their profit will drop anyway
plus if whales still want to effect the collusive whales they can simply upvote everyone else 100%

well then the rest of the community down votes those posts. They can't block everyone alienating your self from the rest of the pack gets really lonely. People will delegate power to other accounts to have effect on users but once those accounts are blocked well it takes 7 days to get that power back into your account to send it else where i believe. So sooner or later troll or abuser like that will get tired of it.

But I'm curious to see what could happen with this. I'm looking for solutions just like everyone else but all people do is talk so we got to get something done. What in your opinion could or should be done to stop current targeted attacks against users for malicious reasons

Well, when I first joined it was pretty much understood flags were for abuse. There were many post about such things and vast majority of flags were from steemcleaners. Then Dan himself started flagging because he thought certain post earned too much, that opened the gate.

To make matters worse at HF 16 they added the description to state if you disapproved with post earnings it was ok to flag. So we got flag wars, all because no one wanted to delegate an administrative team to deal with abuse.

Everyone wanted to think this is decentralized and the community polices itself. In other words, wild wild west.

So we have to treat it that way, either walk softly and quietly or carry a big gun.

And, just so ya know... Delegating steem power to another account doesn't take a week, it takes a second :)

I think whatever you try and do at this point it's either going to be gamed or punish the innocent or both. And as I saiid to Dan once and he agreed, it's very hard for me to believe he didn't see this coming.

Your solution to "bullying" is to buy steem and power it up, easy peasy :)

yeah delegating takes a second but i believe getting it back takes a week.

I would really like to see the data you are referencing for that statement.

"That one guy" will love it when we change the entire system in a disastrous way, just to stop his behavior. Delegation is bullshit enough and will lead to an entirely new level of thievery and this opt-in/out thing is against the spirit of the thing .. aaaaannnnd .. kinda chicken-shit, with all due respect. lol

Like an extended mute feature essentially? Interesting, It could be a cool experiment if nothing else, I fear however that steemit has its eyes on other things. Possibly if the code was done in a PR it might be discussed, as I see it currently devs are over taxxed with the current feature proposals already on the table. Mind you I dont know :)

A better experiment would be just to kill the effects of flagging .. keep the flags themselves, as a warning, even perhaps make them more visible .. see what happens. The real problem on the platform is organized crime, organized theft of rewards, which has escaped any measure of policing to-date .. other than The unsustainable Experiment.

Yea I am fairly certain that you just miss the entire point of the system here, the flag is required. Oh and if your sour about this platform...you are free to leave you know that right?

What's wrong ray .. overdue poopie!?

How often do you invite people to leave?

Anyway, yes .. I do know that I am welcome to leave, and thank you for helping me take one large step closer to it.

chuckles Woah, I suppose I could possibly have expressed what I meant a little clearer and with less malice, my point is simply that as far as flags go, to my understanding they are needed, and I am by no means an expert. In terms of my comment towards your leaving I simply felt the need to point it out because, you do regularly seem very sour for example your response to my comment. Anyway....

Sorry Ray .. you are right - I shouldn't post when I am in my current mood. You are correct to point out that we should keep things positive, or find a more suitable environment - there will be choices.

Thank you Kurt, I very much appreciate that and I am am sorry as well for any of which I may have incurred in that exchanged. :)

Opting out would make it a lot harder to fight abuse. There are a handful of people right now who work at it and if someone decided to opt out of those few people it would be very difficult to remove rewards from any plagiarized post.
