Introducing STEEMPI: Bringing STEEM charts and notifications on your TV and in your living room! (Update 3 - Features and interface)

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

The STEEMPI project is now in development for around 2 weeks, new features have been added and it's time for a introduction of STEEMPI with pictures of it's features.

Have you ever wanted to see the Steem related charts and statistics on your TV with the press of a button on your tv remote?

  • Are you looking for a new project to try or participate with?
  • Do you have a Raspberry Pi laying around?
  • Or perhaps you maybe want to buy one and use it for STEEMPI

Introduction

The STEEMPI is a project i made that can be run on a Raspberry Pi (and other boards). I have built this because i wanted to have all the Steem related information i check on a daily base, into one interface connected to my TV and accessible over WIFI with a phone, tablet and PC (internet browser).

The ultimate goal is to make it super easy to install, and use without any coding.
Other Steemit users could simply copy the files to the SD card of there Raspberry Pi and be good to go to start using STEEMPI

At the moment SteemPi is still in development and currently has the following features:

Google Trends

Showing the latest Steem, and crypto currency charts generated by Google

Header switch buttons

Do you like to look at the Steemit Pond, or Whale Sonar watching the live fish swim by, or do you like to see the live Steem Streem?

The top header can now be switched with buttons between Steemit Pond, Whale Sonar, Steem Stream, SteemitBoard, Steem Followers and Steem Supply.

CoinGecko Coin tickers

Displaying the latest Crypto currency market value (Steem, SBD, BTC)

Steemit Feed

Slider module with your latest Steemit comments, replies and the latest posts from specific tags of interest.

Steemit Apps

Clickable Steemit app tiles

LED Notification test button

Test button to turn on and off the notification LED

Some features of SteemPi are not yet implemented or still have limitations and may not function in the most optimal way, for now it is functional (but it can be much better), new ideas and features will come in the future updates, SteemPi makes use of other apps, please support the makers of those apps and don't forget to support and participate to this project.

Closing Thoughts

SteemPi is a concept and in development, i'm not a good programmer and the program has many rough coding edges and at this moment you will need a little bit of coding skills to make it work for your personal account (search/copy/replace techtek in index.php)

Latest index.php with all the above mentioned new features, interface looks very close to the above images:

Some help is needed with:

  • Who can help to add in a SteemSQL connection to the SteemPi index.php and execute and echo back simple queries results?
  • Who can help to add in a SteemSQL connection to the SteemPi index.php and make the LED blink on new incoming replies/upvotes/comments ?

Code to turn on and off the LED:
exec ("gpio write 0 1");
exec ("gpio write 0 0");

  • Would running SteemPi with Joomla and a responsive Joomla template make it more easy for the users to add in and change content? and would it solve the issues with smaller resolutions without using to much resources?

Your help will be very much appreciated and i would love to hear your feedback:

Is the interface useful to you, and what features would you like to see?
Would you like to have Steem notification on your TV?

Man! I wish I had the bandwidth to help you take this on.

Thanks for your reply, i will try to make the project less time consuming to install and get up and running.

(Instead of now around 2 hours i hope to reduce and simplify the process to around 20 min)

Sound great, but, I meant help with the coding.

Yes some help with the coding would be very welcome, but supporting me with comments, spreading the word and giving feedback also helps the project.

Thank you for your support
