Orvium is the first open source and decentralized framework for managing the life cycles of a scientific publication and relevant data. The initial goal is to help scientific communities share their publications, eliminate existing inefficiencies and shifts in the publication market and improve the quality and effectiveness of the publication's life cycle. The ultimate goal is to become the leading platform for the publication of the research community, while returning the benefits of science to society.

Governments finance most of the research, and once research results are ready for publication, publishers purchase them for free. The bulk of the editorial load is carried out by scientists on a voluntary basis, their salary is usually paid by the government and research institutes. Publishers sell the product back to government-funded institutions and university libraries, which collectively create the product first.
