Hustles of Steemian trying to grow without upvote bots, where are the curators?

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

When we all started posting and networking on steemit, the initial advise were-
1.Create original content.
2.Put quality comments on posts.
3.Quality over quantity.
4.Network on discord/steemit.chat.
5.Finding your niche.
6.Posting every day.

As a "PLANKTON" I keep getting such pieces of advice. Even when someone new asks me how to gain visibility, I advise them something similar.

Is this all that it take to get noticed?

I am afraid that isn't.I have been here for like 2 months, I have seen people putting a lot of hard work into their posts, working hard for creating some marvellous post and not getting the benefits out it. I have many friends on steemit, who wish to grow organically and feel the use of voting bots is against their ethics. Just because they feel they are raping the reward pool and depriving the deserving one of those rewards.

Yesterday I was on my commenting rounds and stumbled upon one of the posts by one of my early friends on the steemit @wanderlass. Here.

She tried describing her hustle to try growing organically without using any upvote bots in her benefits. She is totally against the use them and struggles to get proper recognition for her hard work creating great content.

She has also tried touching upon the curation projects here on steemit, and how difficult it is to get across curation upvote.

She is questioning the right strategy to grow on steemit. Whether its okay to use bots or not?

If even the people, who are doing, whatever it takes to grow on steemit have to choose the same path followed by spammers for getting noticed, then we could say something is really terrible going on.

Problems with upvote bots!

Well, As I have tried discussing this problem in my earlier posts, so won't write everything again.

I don't see upvote bots as a problem (in fact, I use some of them myself), but the way they work and are delegated by whales for personal interest is a problem. When reputed people instead of curating others content start delegating to upvote bot real content creators starts lagging behind.

Solution

Its simple, we just need to empower the real content creators. We have projects like OCD, Project Curie and Qurators running on this platform.

I see @ned delegating a lot of SP to projects like Dmania, instead of delegating SP to those projects he may delegate more to curating projects.

Whales earning a lot of profit through upvote bots could turn towards human curating If they think about long-term that would be more than profitable for them as well.

RANDOM IDEA- FIVE SBD Curation

Whats that? I am a thinker and my brain got farting habits. It may be just another brain fart or brain gem I don't know but I wanted to put this in here. Maybe someone could start working on it.

5 SBD curation could work as an organization working on curating posts of true content creators. I know we have something like Qurators, but what about creating a tool for real content creators which works similarly like STEEMCLEANERS just upvotes instead of flagging.

We need to pay SBD for buying upvote with link in the memo. Likewise, real content creators (if they feel they are creating great content worthy curation and their posts meets certain guidelines) could send 5 SBD with a link and get their posts into curation funnel.

If the post doesn't get the curation vote because curators don't feel its good, 5 SBDs are returned.

If sender's post doesn't meet few guidelines, senders SBDs won't be returned.

If the post looks great, it will be upvoted and SBDs are returned.

Who will take the responsibility of curation?

I think there are many people who care and will love to take that job.

Sending 5SBDs(or more) will help to filter spammers out of curation itself and keep them at bay. Instead of just trying filtering them by tags it will be more effective.

Still, its a random idea which in my head looks great but it may never see light because of low visibility and plankton status :).

Conclusion

True content creators are needed to be supported on this platform and that should be the main priority of steemit. Maybe the whales were responsible for curation or topic ambassadors should have been given the role.

Anyways, I am happy that there are some great curation projects who are helping minnows/dolphins with good content. But due to increasing number of posts every day, it is becoming difficult to curate good content every day.

Maybe the curation project could try taking minnows/plankton(who are creating good content) help. It will be win-win situation for everyone, good content creators and minnows/planktons hence the blockchain.

I understand that it could be very frustrated that you worked so hard posting quality content but no one sees your potential. You are heartbroken sometimes you want to give up.

For myself, I look at another perspective which is the low bandwidth that makes it impossible to post more posts and content. That is why I invested SGD 250. I think that being is Steemit is more on who will be more consistent, the discipline to post every day at least one quality post.

I got only 50 STEEM POWER but I'm satisfied that the level of satisfaction is at the utmost importance here. If you see someone with higher STEEMPOWER than you, you maybe influence to think that it is unfair that he gets that X amount of it.

I admitted that I used bid bot but a bot which I had a deep research in it. It was called @buildawhale. I trust the witness who runs it and one day popping up on my friend's blog to reply to my replies on the blog.

Don't give up, strive to grind every day if you want to make Steemit your career. Take care of your finance also. Forgive me for this long comment but this is my opinion. Upvoted!

hey afiqsejuk,
Thank you for your opinion ... I haven't tried using @buidawhale though I trust markymark for fighting abuse.. may be I'll try using it once ... thank you for visiting my blog :)

Thank you very much for this very perceptive response to this issue and for focusing more on the solution!

I have been wondering where the whales are. I know you also listened to the Steem Queens discord talk and someone said something like "minnows should be commenting, dolphins creating content and whales curating". Not the exact words and I didn't catch who spoke those words (sorry if I couldn't give due credit and citation). I wish this was the case. Of course, minnows should create content but what a great platform this will be if whales curated.

The 5 SBD curation fee is also a great idea! That gives you a chance to be seen by human curators. And I doubt plagiarizers and people who do low quality content will use that service. That's why I like teams like @qurator.

Yeah, I tried listening to the show but was distracted all the time. The things with mspwaves is you get confused reading replies, replying back and listening. So I think I missed that part :).

I think whales themselves couldn't curate each and every post and would need some help from the people of this community. Steemians(who cares) needs to join hand, to form an organisation where everyone have some curation duty. I think that's the only solution.

I understand that whales are busy. Maybe I was just hoping they'd be more visible in the minnow community and not in just their elite community. I do see a lot of whales trailed to the curation teams which is great.

hai @tanishqyeverma, I am also the same with you new 2 months joining in steemit, and I also sometimes feel desperate with the results I get every day, lately I just use a small bot to vote my posting, and I want to use a big bot to get results more worthy of my work, will it guide me? what bot do you usually use? and how many SBDs should we send?

hey ami92, I don't use any particular bots, just search bots on steembottracker.com and choose the bot giving the maximum ROI, which is rare these days because of the increase in demand of bid bots.

Instead of trying to buy upvote you should try buying them from steem market or minnow booster. They make sure that your upvotes are profitable. I try to use them and when they don't work I go for upvote bots in steembottracker.com.
I hope that it helps you. Moreover, I'll try writing my next post about the use of steemmarket and minnow booster.
Thank you for visitng my blog @ami92 and sorry for the late reply bandwidth issues :(

thanks a lot of friends, this helps me a little, this banwidth is very upset, i also experience it every day.

Well said, we need to get away from upvote bots and start to focus on getting some manual curation!!

Yeah that should be the main priority of Steemian mostly whales. But when you get easy money selling votes, curation projects looks not worthy of delegation.

Really interesting post. I agree on the points and see some obvious problems. I started a blog @the189 to try and find inspiring art and design from around the steemit platform, but there is a lot of junk to it's a bit difficult. Saying that, I hope others can get together and push good content forward. I guess it just takes time and effort together as a group.

I WILL SUPPORT GOOD CONTENT and #SHARKATTACK shit1 You sir.....SUPPORTED. 200w_d.gif

Thank you grimm :)
