I'm giving out 100 Steem as Tips to struggling users...anyone want to match me?

in steemit •  last year

First I want to tell you a little story about what happened to me many months ago on Steemit.

Like so many others, I was brand new, figuring things out over time and starting to feel that my content was pretty good. After a couple months of working hard on my posts, I was getting a little rattled by the lackluster response. Just by happenstance, I ended up chatting a little bit with @knozaki2015 who gave me some supportive words, a few suggestions and a five dollar 'tip'. THIS BLEW ME AWAY and was an instant boost.

I received a 5 Steem Dollar tip for what I had already been doing. I was elated for days after this, reinvigorated to continue putting in that time and effort. This is something that has stuck with me during my time here and can't forget. (Thank you again @knozaki2015!)

I found a post later on where I found how this had been a coordinated initiative (I forget the name) to seek out and reward people who were just in my spot....been here for a while, persistent, with lots of effort. Knowing the effect it had on me, imagine that happening to dozens or hundreds other others that were in my same spot.

What I Propose and what I need Help with

  • I want to give out 100-200 Steem (or SD's) starting tomorrow, over the week (ends following Sunday.)

  • Each person giving prizes is allocated five 5-Steem tips. We reach more categories with more independent searches than just my own. I plan on 4-8 (often smaller, maybe struggling users) helpers to give these out.

  • I'm donating 100 Steem(or SD's) to get things started this week. I believe distributing 200 Steem (or SD) is obtainable over the week, IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO MATCH ME.

  • Any further donations can be used to fund future weeks to continue this project. This is something that when funded (up to 200 Steem/SD a week) we'll get those tips out to reinvigorate struggling but good users, helping to retain them.

  • 100% Steem Dollars from this post will also be used towards funding this same pool.

  • When unfunded, it can just sit idle and be ok. It's quick and easy to pick up again on a smaller scale like this.

I will keep track of who gets what (through wallet memos) and from who to make sure it is fully transparent. I plan for 100% of donated funds to be given away as 'tips.'

[UPDATE: I've already given two users 25 Steem each to begin giving out the tips to those who have been putting in the work, but haven't reaped the rewards. I'll get the remainder handed out over the next two days.]

I am sending you 15 Steem Dollars to contribute to the pool.
The community needs this kind of support @sykochica.
@knozaki also helped me a lot. He is an awesome guy.

·

That's awesome! Thank you!
I'll definitely make sure they find a good, appreciative home. :)

Yea..his small acts had huge impacts. Talk about an phenomenal return on investment! Lol

·
·

Indeed. This is after all what makes us a great community.

Wow, you're the best! I've only earned 5 steem so far, but this is a great idea. Hope it helps!

·

Thank you! It's a great gesture. But aww, you really don't have to do that!

Awesome, I'm excited by all of the recent progress steem has made from its inception. The idea of a "masterclass" is a stroke of genius; encouragement has its own rewards. Excellent post, I look forward to reading about your successes. Upvoted and followed!!

·

It has been a long crazy ride over the last year on here! It's gonna be super exciting to where things go from here. For those of us here early on it should be a HUGE benefit. :)

But yea, it does take a while to just about anyone to get built up on here. Having been in that struggle myself for months, I wanted to be able to give some back to other newbies.

I appreciate the vote and the follow.

I'm new here as well and I've given the gift of 'Steem' to a few random people that have interacted with my post. It really makes a difference to them it seems, and I think it would have made the difference to me as well if I didn't have the ability to build up my rank ever so slightly.

It would be awesome if you can share some suggestions too which helped you improve and learn along the way at steem!
Cheers.

·

A couple things that helped me...hrm. I'll think on this some more. But I'll get something together to answer that.

In the mean time here's an old post that covers more into marketing posts and this old FAQ that covers a wider array of topics.

·

I agree, suggestions would be appreciated.

·

Great suggestion. I'd like to know that as well.

This is an awesome initiative @sykochica. Giving back to the community, such a great thing. I applaud this effort and best of success to everyone on this wonderful platform :)

·

Thank you!

Could someone get me a list of people that I could send Steem to? Have thought about entertaining sending Steem to a whole bunch of people to spread the wealth. Am also going to have to make a post to match you on this. :)

·

I'll have the list after the fact of people the tips were given to. But that's something I'll just re-engineer from the wallet memos. I'm giving it all to other people to distribute.

However, I did want to go through the people that were subtly asking in comments of this post. See who might be a good candidate.

We can tough base on this during the week though. :)

·
·
·
·
·

I don't have a spreadsheet together just yet, but this post has all people receiving tips so far. :)

·
·
·
·

Great!, Will leave a reply. :)

Awesome idea - great to see the Steemit community supporting each other.

If i can nominate myself, i made a post on leadership using the Wolf Pack as an Example , i just discovered that on steemit, only programmers make the real dow!

Reading this kind of post from Steemians with history and large followings is very encouraging. I haven't been here long but spend a lot of time trying to get a message of truth out. I believe I've done ok in 2 weeks getting a small following of 120ish but would appreciate any save advice that helps me get to the next level of influence. $ are nice but education is paramount.
Please consider taking a look at my blog at @tremendospercy as any criticism good or bad would be greatly appreciated.
FYI I know I need to rein in the rants regarding Blair, Hillary, Macron etc

·

Give me a day or two to look over your blog and get some specific suggestions together.

In the mean time you might take a look at this post that gives some tips on how to increase votes (ideally high SP votes) as well. I'll get back in touch :)

·
·

Will do.
Cheers

·
·
·

Sorry I've not gotten back yet. It's been a few busy days for me. But I didn't forget, will get some ideas to you soon. :)

·
·
·
·

No worries, thanks for remembering me 😎

Great Idea @sykochica! I must admit as a new user it is a struggle. I did an experiment on when to post to increase value that I conducted for over a week and spent a lot of time on and the result yielded around 230 upvotes, but none of the curators had much SP so it was very undervalued. I even made the top 20 undervalued posts. The minnows need some encouragement, thats for sure.
Here is the post if interested https://steemit.com/blog/@necrophagist/how-to-improve-your-chances-of-getting-an-upvote-a-week-long-experiment-on-when-to-post-to-increase-votes
Thanks for the help!

Good luck my friend!, i always get a smile in my face when i see initiative of helping others!, that is great!

Great idea, I have just upvoted and Resteemd your post in order to help you gather the money!

that is so nice, thanks for helping out!

I can't match because I don't have any steem yet but if there is any way I can help, let me know. I like this idea and hope to join in the pool in the future!

·

Thank you!
And technically, you contributed with your upvote...so thank you for donating! :D

I'm a struggling user myself. How will you choose who gets the prize?

·

To start it'll be geared to target users at least 3 to 4 weeks. I won't be passing things out myself (unless it becomes necessary) instead letting 4-8 people each search out five people to give the tip to.

What I will suggest to them is to subjectively look for consistent effort, quality,and/or sometimes mass improvement. Outside of trying to limit multiple tips being given to the same person...this will be a rather unbound choosing system.

However I do/will look at everybody's blog that receives a tip.

I didn't want to make this overly-complicated at the start.

I am here to learn fishing and not to get some fish everyday from others . Nyway it's a great initiative. Spread some knowledge. Cheers!!!!!!1

·

Exactly! I was asked my another user for some specific things that I learned that helped me improve and needed to think a bit on that one.

I just made this post on some strategies for getting more votes that might be helpful in the meantime. :)

·
·

And you got my vote already.

Sounds awesome!

Great Initiative, helping others is like helping yourself subconsciously, I know you will do great as I have heard once that you have given 5 SBD to a new steemian to boost his morale and he was appreciating your deed. I would love to help in any way possible.

·

Thank you! Oh...I'll conciously admit that I help myself (on many levels) by helping out others.

Hehe, yea. I remember that in the last week or so. That's the only one I gave personally. I did give a couple people 25 SD's each to give out in the same way (as the proposal.) I feel things get spread out better by others as well as helps the 'giver' get a little notice.

·
·

So, I can Help you by giving 5 steem?

·
·
·

You can if you want to and I can get it paid forward. But technically you have already donated something by upvoting this post. :)

If you're a smaller user, I'd almost say hold on to it for yourself. But really it's up to you. :)

·
·
·
·

Well, on that basis, I am a very much smaller user and don't earn much on my post, always stuck below 2$ so, though I giveaway a lot of steem and SBD to others, I don't have much now, So I will hold on to it and have followed you to see great posts like these.

·
·
·
·
·

It's definitely a nice thought and gestures. I truly appreciate that!

I think it's better in your hands. :)

·
·
·
·
·
·

Thanks.

Great... It was nice to new user like me. Thanks!

Good luck Chica!

This is a great idea, @sykochica.

I think it has the potential to get some interest and snowball-effect going in some of the lesser-used areas, in health, history, science, (yay science).

Good luck!

-MNIV

·

It'd definitely be nice! ...be interesting to see how it all goes. :)
At least well get to a few dozen people this week..maybe more. Gotta start somewhere.

·
·

Followed to check the progress of these efforts and resteemed!

·
·
·

Thank you very much! :D

i Love that.... you are trying to give back to steemit.... thumbs up

·

Thank you!

Very good. I think its very kind of experienced steemians to help build up new steemians. Kudos to you. I wish i can donate to this cause, but at this stage, I could actually make do with your money. 😊

·

Thank you! And technically by upvoting the post you did already donate...so thank you! Lol

I totally understand as well. I don't want to be taking from smaller users for the most part. Let that stay in your pocket. :)

good idea i agree with you

This is such a great initiative. Helping and encouraging struggling Steeminans who deserves to be rewarded. May your kind efforts be re payed ten fold :)
Upvoted and followed :)

That's really cool of you. I have already been tipped by two others: 10 Steem and one SBD, this month. This has never happpened in my five years over on bitcointalk. My contribution apart from my posts is a site that allos you to pay for downloads with SBD www.steemfiles.com . SBD does not track the USD very well.

I have a user amount of SP. I guess there are many that need money more than I do. Tips are always welcome and appreciated.

Redsteemed. 🚂

Sounds like a really good idea to speed up growth in the community. I get excited when a .30$ upvote arrives to support a comment I give so receiving SP, which hopefully we go back into the pot, will be a real boost! Nice one

A great idea but I have none to give. 😒

·

Thank you!
And technically, you contributed with your upvote...so thank you for donating! :D

This seems like a good initiative. To me it seems like certain types of posts are always voted up while other types are usually ignored. For instance, I love to write fiction but those types of posts are mostly ignored...... however blog posts and human interest pieces usually catch support, not to mention anything about steem or cryptocurrency. I would love to see wider support for more types of content.

Nice initiative, @sykichica! I just sent over 10 Steem.

·

That's awesome! Thank you so much! It'll go to a good home :)

·
·

You're very welcome. A little encouragement is nice, that's for sure!

Brilliant initiative! I'm not in a position to donate, being such a newcomer, but I fully support your endeavour. This community is fantastic.

Followed / resteemed

·

Thank you!
And technically, you contributed with your upvote...so thank you for donating! :D

·
·

That didn't occur to me. Yay, go me! 😁

On what merits are you planning donations? Good initative. Support.

·

Been here at least 3 to 4 weeks. Subjectively looking for consistent effort, quality,or sometimes mass improvement. I'm not directly choosing, instead giving it to a few helpers.

really nice of you.. been working hard but not getting much steem. Could use the boost! I hope to be able to give away myself one day..

I think it's a grand idea, just can't really donate at this point, myself just in the beginning stages of steeming.

·

Thank you!
And technically, you contributed with your upvote...so thank you for donating! :D

·
·

Oh great @sykochica, I'm glad I've done my part then! :D

Haven't been here long enough to fulfill the persistent effort part or have earned enough to contribute xD but I hope this goes really well! <3

·

Thank you!
And if you upvoted the post...technically you already contributed! Thank you for your donation! :P

·
·

I did it, I made it all happen!

This is an awesome idea, just started so it is encouraging to see posts like this with promote each other. Thank you

Great job!

I'm new but I'm trying to do something similar with #steemdonate which I would like to be a thing. So far haven't raised that much.
https://steemit.com/steemdonate/@thecrazygm/steemdonate-a-proposal

You're too kind :) Im glad we met.

Great job @sykochica keep it up :)

You are an absolute blessing, thank you firstly for amazingly inspirational post. It reassures me that all is not in vein.

Make photography, I like black and white :))

I am new to steemit, and have already begun with developer work for the community, releasing my first application for OSX today! I hope you'll check it out:

https://steemit.com/steem-project/@zcgolf16/project-announcement-steemticker-osx-a-simple-steem-price-ticker-for-osx-toolbar

you're awesome.

Great idea!

WOW! That's awesome. Today I am noticing posts on both sides of the story.
Several people being stepped on/sat on by several WHALES.
Nice to see there is people putting their values forward!
funny-girl-dancing-animated-gif-3.gif

Make a post about the results of this campaign, I have been curious about doing this as well!

Great idea! The Steemit community has been very helpful over the last few months.

Great idea! We need to get people confident in this platform and give them incentive to post and spread this around. We're on the ground floor of the future of social media here! :)

Upvoted & Followed!

Great initiative!

Wonderful idea! I love this community. I recently transferred my balances to poloniex, so I don't have much, but I'll kick a few SBD your way to help with this initiative.

As norwegian, i struggle to be true to the blog format and to color the language the way I like. It seriously hampers my productivity and I know I'm not alone. I'm not keen on donations, just keep in mind the little typo, the strange wording is there for a reason. I have a writeup sitting on the computer that has been there for two days and still it's not published because I ran into troubles to get it right. Upvote a foreigner every day. Just sayin.

Incredible promotion in so many ways ! very clever :-)

I did my thing, now heading to STP to check it out.
Steem on my friend !

My Signature Post ---> Fun & maybe a little Cheeky

This is a wonderful initiative in its own right. In addition, keeping and sharing steem, this action increases the velocity of the steem currency circulating within the community and makes us more close knit and stronger.

Very interesting initiative! Lots of good vibes on here... haven't got what to contribute just yet but I hope that I'll be able to pitch in at some point. All the best!

Good Initiative

This is great! Paying it forward...i just love steemit for seeing things like these happening more often!

Great initiative @skyochica... definitely makes the community better. Don't have much now but i'll contribute to this someday. Donating with my upvote for now :))

·

Thank you!
The upvote alone does a ton!

Being a new user here myself, i can't thank you enough for all that you do for us @sykochica

·

Thank you! Very kind words. :)

such a great initiative, heartening to see the community helping each other grow. exciting week ahead indeed :)

·

Thank you! It'll definitely will be exciting to see the impact..even if on a small scale.

·
·

the thought is what counts, not the scale. resteemed, thanks!

I just made a 100 Steem donation for your tips pool. This post is quite inspiring, and I'm happy to give a little back to the community as thanks for all the support & help I've gotten during my own long Steemit journey. We're all in this together!

I'd help, but I only have about 12 steem total. :D

Hi guys, I'd like to apply for 20 steem to buy another acct. I keep powering up my posts, and I dont plan to withdraw. The second acct will be in an attempt to bring over folks from my fandom related social accts (50k+) Any additional steem will be used for groceries <3

this is so brilliant. thank you for really thinking up such a great way to assist others. they will be encouraged no end, just the way you were. what a great boost it will give them. i have had wonderful mentors in my life so i know how rewarding it is for both mentor and mentee. and steemit is such an incredible power for good, such a great enabler of potential. cheers sykochica. thank you.

Great initiative.

·

Thank you!

I can contribute $20 to this pool Do you have any suggestion for me?

·

Awww, I appreciate the offer to donate...but I usually recommend for newer, smaller users to just hold on to their money to help build themselves up. If you really really want to donate though, I won't stop you and will put it to good use.

As for suggestions:
I see you're really new here, so welcome to Steemit! I'd recommend making an introduction post about yourself using the tags #introduce and #introduceyourself (the other three tags can be what you want that are applicable.) You may want to take a look at what some others have done to get an idea of which of these have done better.

Make sure to include at least one picture (which is used for a thumbnail) and let us know about you, what your interests are, what you think you'll be posting about and anything else you'd like to share. :)

Upvoted for the idea, and in particular, the link to https://www.steemithelp.net.

I just joined Steemit, having spent time on Quora answering questions (20k+views my first real week using it), but after a few weeks lost interest because of the lack of payout. Without creating courses or marketing other material, it wasn't worth the time commitment.

This seems like the place that has the best of both worlds - relevant activity and actual rewards for great content. Thanks for the resources!

·

Oh nice! Welcome!
I definitely think you'll find that great 'middle ground' of activity, intelligence people and the monetization.

Feel free to shoot me questions about this place if any come to mind for you. Happy to help out. :)

·
·

Great, thanks!

Following! Thank you for encouraging new users. Steem on! @ironshield

·

Thank you! I'm happy to...something I love doin. :)

@sykochica You are an angel. This is a kind initiative. I am one of those struggling but I am not seeking SBD but readers and followers, and the SBD will then take care of itself! I have put out some great content and was excited for people to see it and was surprised that so many had not. That...is pretty discouraging. But I suppose I will find a niche. I will keep doing what I'm doing because I love it here and I love to write and express what's on my mind or share something of interest. But, yeah kudos to you and all of those who have pledged to help you with this initiative.

That's very kind of you! I was recently given my major first tip of $16.23 and I'm gonna split it all up and find some hard working new steemians to tip it too. I wanna maximise the positive energy from that generosity. This post is actually a great reminder to do that so off I go. Thanks sharing!
