Missing Link / Whale for a Day

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

An astrologist friend of mine wrote recently on his Facebook page that the stars were right for writing down wish lists for the future. Now I'm no grand believer in astrology, but I am a grand believer in my friends and that they wouldn't steer me wrong, so here goes:

Let's say someone - let's call him "Bob" - is tired. Bob needs a two-week retreat away from the internet. However, Bob wants to earn some curation rewards on Steemit at the same time.

Now, one option is to join a curation trail, but what if there was another option? What if Bob could, with just a mouse click, turn his Steem Power (or a portion of it) into Silent Steem Power? It would no longer attribute to his voting weight but still accumulate as normal, or maybe a little better than normal so that he doesn't miss out as much on the whole curation rewards thing.

Doesn't sound like a big deal, but the question is: where does the extra SP he'll be earning come from?

So who's going to be paying this extra SP into Bob's account? Well, maybe another Steemit user - let's call her "Alice" - can do so. Alice is organizing a festival next week and wants to promote it. Alice is a clever girl; that's why, apart from paying for billboards, she also borrows from Bob's Silent SP Fund for a week to give her own upvotes more weight and she can give a really fat upvote for every post mentioning this festival.

Now, how much is she going to pay for this service? Well, why don't we just let the market decide? Before we do, though, here are some estimates.

If we check how much curation rewards our biggest whales earned last week, believe it or not it's something like only 5000 SP. At the current price of Steem (around $0.15) that's only something like $750 USD.

If Alice places an order and offers something like 1500 SBD to borrow 3 million SP for a week, I bet more than a few whales wouldn't mind taking a few days off to join Bob on the beach, have a few margaritas, and just know that they'll be getting a nice return on their investment.

Now, this whole SSP Fund idea isn't just my invention. If you search for "Internal voting Delegation" or "rShares Market" you'll see that this is a pretty well-known idea. What most people fail to realize is that this is indeed the missing link to grow a boring little niche forum to a new economic system that can get us to the moon, as some people here use to say.

Here's another approach that might make it a little better to understand.

It's said that everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame. What if we could soon add to that? What if everyone gets to be a whale, even if just for one day?

And if $200 for a day still seems too rich for your blood, you could always organize a crowdfunding campaign among fellow Steemians for the purpose.

If you're still not motivated enough, think about just one more thing:

How much would you be pay for the opportunity - for just a day - to flag to oblivion all that crap that shows up on Steemit every day that others continue to upvote?

Yes, it's going to be an interesting time here until things settle down. But there's no way around it - right now our average Steemit user looks like a German Shepherd puppy begging for treats.

He's going to have to grow some teeth for Steemit to survive in the wolf's world of cryptocurrency
