The great spirit of steemit. How the vision pulls us.steemCreated with Sketch.

Many different minds think alike.

I have been wondering what THE spirit of steemit could be, why so many users are absolutely dedicated to the platform and why this community is different to many others.

I guess that one of the big secrets is that we all share the same vision, independently from our individual origin, culture, beliefs or talents. We are here for the change. We are here for the better.

Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don´t (TIL)

The success of the 'Today I Learned'-tag is the very best example for the huge interest Steemians do have in learning from others. It´s about curiosity, interest, the need to be wowed but also about appreciation of others´ knowledge, giving applause and congratulate. It´s a give and take!

One of the big assets here is the credibility - no 'fakenews'.

The only 'censorship' existing on steemit.com is the one its users create on their own by making use of their Steem Power. It´s a healthy way of 'channeling content' that doesn´t need any establishment. We are our own bosses here.

We all have our own story and own style. But independently from the content - its message is always for better.

We don´t have any hate campaigns here. We don´t have any blindly followed shit storms. We don´t have any mobbing. We simply don´t need that. It´s a fair cooperation, a healthy competition, an authentic community a really nice place to be.

It´s also about being happy for others and their success.

'Thanks for your upvote, I follow you back.' 'What an excellent post, resteemed.' 'I had no idea, thanks for sharing!'

The shared vision

Steemit is a platform based on trust and authenticity. A self-governed network wouldn´t ever work if there wasn´t a strong common 'sense of justice'. The users perfectly know 'what´s right and what´s wrong' - and especially what is beneficial for the network´s growth.

It seems like discussions about the network itself are the most controversial ones. And that´s awesome!

It means that we do care!

No matter where we come from, no matter what we do in 'real life' - there is an outstanding shared common sense.

We are different. We are the good alternative. We are the good ones.

Supporting an application based on a blockchain technology means that most of us are believing in 'an alternative solution'. Maybe we are tired of the existing system or even frustrated. Maybe we have been suffering a lot, lost what we had, lost our goods and thus our beliefs. Maybe we are just done.

Maybe we haven´t made any bad experiences on our own but we are empathic minds who suffer when others do - and lately a lot of people had many reasons to complain.

And maybe we are here because we cannot stand being controlled anymore. Maybe we don´t wanna be a product of the old attention-economy anymore, or maybe we just want to get back our right to be an autonomous communicating individual.

Maybe we just want to get back the value of our voices.

The World is not the same anymore. But it´s in our hands to change it back.

There’s a great quote by Carlos Slim, and he said:  ‘Most people think they need to make a better world for their children, but the reality is we need to make better children for our world.’

Quote by Ashton Kutcher being interviewed by Ellen DeGeneres.

It´s an exciting ride, and I am happy to be part of it. Steem on!

Cheers,
Marly -

Upvoted. Very interesting read. :)

Thank you, @sgtechservices! It´s much appreciated :-)

Voted, as ever, because I love your posts and I read them(!) but a big BUT ... TIL is jargon - you might know what it means, that does not mean the rest of the world does! Inclusivity beats clique language any day! I loved the Ashton Kutcher quote - very insightful.
Example - category - steemitphotochallenge - why not 'ilearnedtoday' - korea is kr - three more letters guys and we all get it. I saw another recently - wilt - WILT is a great book by Tom Sharpe - With Incremental Lacrosse Training? When I learned Tahitian? Who invented liquorice trifle? Waffle incites lightning, thunder. I am having a laugh but I hope you see the gist!

Yaeh, I saw the gist ;-) First of all, thanks for your detailed comment and great feedback! I truly appreciate that and am pleased you 'read' my posts :-)
You are absolutely right - 'TIL' is jargon. That´s why I explained it right away in the following sentence... But yeah, maybe we should distance from these abbreviations when talking about steemit in general. New users could have some difficulties in understanding. Although I think especially 'TIL' is known well from other platforms like Reddit, but anyway...:-)
I am happy you like the Kutcher quote - it is one of my favourite quotes of all.
Steem on @ebryans, and thank you again for your feedback!

We all are interested in dialogue, or at least in finding our individual voices. Other social media tend to encourage passive consumption. How's that for another defining characteristic?

A quite good one, I´d say @richardjuckes! Thank you very much for your comment. Dialogue is another steemit asset, of course.

I am happy to hear that ;-) Thanks for your support @benjojo.

I love that quote, "We need to make better children for our world."
Hopefully I've done my part. My babies are grown and they will be the dream chasers and makers.
I come to Steemit every day because of the opportunities to learn and the chance to make a difference. I've only recently started following you @surfermarly. I appreciate your positive messages.

Thank you for your lovely words, @merej99. It´s a pleasure knowing you appreciate my stories. Now you have one more follower, too :) I wish you a wonderful Christmas with your 'grown up babies'!

Lovely article and I love the sentiment!

Thank you my friend, that means a lot to me :-) Big Christmas hugs, see ya soon!!!
