You will be penalized for your desire to communicate on steemit

In the next few days will be very questionable restriction, that will limit your freedom to communicate.

Issue #176
Each root level comment has a reward weight which impacts the end payout of the post. We are targeting 4 posts in 24 hours. Your first 4 posts in 24 hours will not be penalized. After that, they weight is decreased from 100% based on your average posting frequency. Having a frequency just barely higher than 1 every 6 hours will have very little impact, while spamming will be penalized heavily. This change is aimed to increase the quality of content at the cost of quantity.

My opinion - the developers forget, that people are predisposed to communication and punish them for their communication is very strange move. How can we hold discussions using all 4 posts a day? Sometimes it is not enough for a one discussion not to mention, that people can engage in dialogue in several topics of interest to them. Developers want to "optimize your communication." It is a way to limit the freedom and the desire to turn people into robots. This is a social network or a program for robots?

We are not a social network Borgs!

That's contradictory, freedom but with restrictions? What's next - mass shootings, dark side? We need another way to solve the spam-comments problem.

Are you a robot?

Sort:

It's not going to restrict your ability to communicate in any way, shape or form. You can still post as much as you'd like. There's not going to be something stopping you from posting.

The only thing that's changing is the amount of rewards for those subsequent posts.

The way you worded a lot of this seems awful fearmongery and misleading.

if the restriction will apply to comments, then the solution of this problem - just make a limit on the time between comments. it's all! simple and genius :)

AFAIK it doesn't apply to comments at all.

The term root level comment that they use means post (at least it does in the steem wallet code). So any comment doesn't count towards this new policy.

I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure I'm reading it right.

Another knee-jerk response to spam that will just cause problems and be rolled back.

If they would just give each user the ability to block users and block topics\tags based on community curation (re-tagging), this would not be necessary. That would let each individual user be in charge of what they see, simply by selecting their preferred tags to block.

Do the 4 posts per day count from replies and comments like this one?

Or is it 4 PUBLISHED posts and it doesn't count the comments/replies made? If it's 4 published posts then thats probably fine.. but if it includes comments then there won't be any discussion going on if it is set that low...

Found my answer:
https://github.com/steemit/steem/issues/176
It is currently only applied to top-level posts. Comments lack the visibility to make much from spamming. We believe the spamming is being done by legitimate users trying to get eyes, not bots. At this time there is no reason to limit comments in this way. We also do not want users to comment less so their own posts can get paid more.

so ONLY for published posts and not comments

First thing that came to my mind

Hm. I think it's a good idea for the long term. Overall, we'll have more quality content! 👍

people are not content.
We can not approach people on the part of the optimization of their communication as a program in the social network.
people are social creatures.
it's like if you were forbidden to communicate with your family, friends for more than 4 hours a day.
no such prospects when people restrict communication.

4 post per day?

it's like every steem member will have 4 bullets to shoot. Any extra bullets will get you penalised.

in a way i can see their reasoning, but there must be some other way.

4 posts a day is quite limiting. How do they end up with that number to start with?

Is this site intended to compete with and eventually replace reddit and facebook type sites? If so then there are other ways to do this. Filters, channels, etc. If such artificial restrictions are placed it will work for probably a lot of people, but the thing about social networking is the more that people use it the more they like to share. Do we want to penalize them for that? If we're talking advertisements and posting the same post over and over that is spam. Beyond that the term SPAM becomes a very subjective thing. Though we CAN always try it out and see what happens before we say.... BAH this won't work. It can be rolled back if it doesn't work out, I am sure.
