While doing some reading about the current situation with the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota, I ran into an article on Guns.com written up by Jennifer Cruz. In the article, it mentions how a Dakota Access Pipeline employee pretended to be a protester to do some work while not drawing attention. He was found out, and some of the tribe members attempted to apprehend the individual. The individual was armed with what appears to be an AR-15 rifle but fortunately the situation was de-escalated and no-one was hurt.

Apart from the sad but critical situation happening in North Dakota, I noticed the picture of the individual that was detained for threatening the protesters. The picture showed an armed man standing in the river while tribal members approached. What caught my eye was the picture because I knew that I had seen it before. Then I read the credit, and it said STEEMIT.COM. It did not credit the author or the article but it did at least credit steemit.com. So I then tried to find the article where I had originally seen the picture but could not find it until earlier today.

Here is the link to the original article with the image used by Guns.com written by @aggroed,

Apart from bringing further light to the current situation in North Dakota with the pipeline and the protesting, I also was intrigued with the fact that a news story used a STEEMIT.COM picture in the article. This furthers the idea that STEEMIT.COM will continue to be used as a news medium amongst other things and will continue to be used as a reference by other sites. This is one of the many versatile traits of STEEMIT.COM and it only still in BETA.

Please be aware that the fight continues against the Dakota Access Pipeline and what it represents. The DAP is just another part of the policies that have decimated the Natives of this land for the last 500 years. It is a clear example of choosing money and corporate profits over a people and their lands.

“We’re going to let it play out for several more weeks.”

President Obama
Nov. 1, 2016

What he is really saying:
"We shall see if they are still there in a few more weeks when the weather starts to turn against them. The snows and winter are coming and they will leave, and I, President Obama will not have to deal with it. If the protesters are still there a few more weeks after that, I will no longer be the President and will not have to do anything."

Please be aware that the fight continues and needs support. The following are links to continue the fight.

That is awesome! Nice find! :)

Thats great and make everyone here reputable.

Somehow they're making the oil companies out as the bad guys...even though they have followed every law thrown at them.

they might adhere to the law but they definitely don't consider the repercussions of their following the law that they have greased for who knows how long. For example, the gulf spill, valdez and others. They have generated profits in the BILLIONS sometimes on a quarterly basis and yet after sucking out the oil made naturally under Everyone's EARTH, they can't even help by lowering gas prices or hell, spend some of those Billions and just go around. If these people are asking nicely, and it is their Land with sacred burial grounds, then do the RIGHT THING, not what will make you and your investors more money but what will serve these people better who are asking peacefully to go around. We supposedly put men on the moon, but can bend a pipe to go around their land?

actually it's NOT their land. All that was checked out in the permitting process. They DID..bend the pipe around their land...the path of the pipline was known for a long time. Then...someone changed their minds. The 'first peoples' are tresspassing.

@everittdmickey To be honest, I am not particularly fond of any of the oil companies. Do I consume and burn fuel, unfortunately yes. Someday, and hopefully soon, it will be more conducive to use a different form of energy consumption. I have had a Nissan Leaf lease but it was inconvenient and impractical for my needs. So we will have to agree to disagree because it seems as though we both have made up our minds.

your argument boils down to "yah...BUT!"
you don't like OIl companies BUT...you buy their product.
you want 'alternative' energy transportation BUT...it's too inconvenient.
See how you are?
Typical.

semantics, land or river it doesn't matter. Oil is dirty and toxic. And yes, my home is wired for electricity and my car is made for gasoline, something I myself can not help. When electrical cars where coming into existence in the 70's, oil companies did their best to squash the Volt, or am I wrong. Corp-ocracy, especially from such a strong lobbying group as the oil industry, is the rule of the day. But someday, hopefully someday people will come before money. Today is not that day. (proof is Standing Rock)
Tesla and a few others are working on that change as far as energy consumption. They will hopefully remove the "inconvenient" which you noticed so well, and the impratical (which you left out). Hopefully oil companies might take their Billions and help the poor, the sick and the needy. Oh that's right, there is no profit without taking, raping, looting and polluting.
ps. I forgot to mention that these same oil giants used to claim that LEAD in the gasoline was good "for us."
