For Agnes

Part I of Coral Castle - A place of Mystery and Wonder describes the life of Edward Leedskalnin and his life's work called Coral Castle. Coral Castle was built by Edward after about 20 years of quarrying, transporting, placing and erecting 1100 tons (around 2 Million Pounds / 900,000 Kg) of Oolite Limestone. Edward turned some of these slabs weighing tons into rocking chairs, obelisks, sundials and other objects. Some of the items he made aligned to celestial bodies.

Edward allowed tourist to visit his place for a small fee. During these tours, he would personally explain that he built Coral Castle as a tribute to his love for Agnes, who ended their engagement the day before the wedding. Edward called Agnes his "Sweet Sixteen." In the first phase of Coral Castle, Edward built house hold items out of the limestone that he quarried. Items such chairs, and what looks like a Dinner Table with Chairs. He created a bathtub and a baby cradle out carved limestone. He created different shapes in the form of the moon, stars and the planets. Most telling of all, he created a heart shaped table. The making of these items along with his own words that he was hoping that his "Sweet Sixteen" would come to join him clearly point to his love and devotion for Agnes.

For The Ages

After some 18 years of putting together these household items, Edward, at the age of 50 decided to move the approximately 200 tons that he had quarried and fashioned into household items. In his new location he would amazingly add an additional 900 tons of quarried and shaped limestone to complete Coral Castle with a fountain, towers and walls within 2 years. Now when Edward was asked about his "Sweet Sixteen" he would say that he left her at the first location.

Edward started his amazing feat in hopes that his love, Agnes, would eventually join him in this home he had made out of limestone. When he realized that she would not be joining him, he moved the 200 tons of items to the new location, and within 2 yrs was able to quarry, shape and place 900 more tons at the age of 50. He wasn't slowing down, he was now going faster. Edward claimed to have learned the secrets of the ancients and that he understood how the Egyptian Pyriamids were built, yet Edward never divulged the exact methods he employed to accomplish these amazing works.

Edward was a mysterious man throughout his whole life. He came from a family of stone masons in Latvia, and worked in the lumber industry in North America. He was an undocumented immigrant for over 20 years in the U.S., possibly leaving Latvia for political reasons (most likely criminal reasons from the ruling party's point of view) under the pretense of having been left at the altar. "Agnes" was really Hermine Lusis, and he did lover her.

While settled in Florida, Edward would continue Freemasonry, something he was most likely familiar with in Latvia. Not only was he born into a line of stonemasons who worked for prominent land barons, but Riga, Latvia was active with many Masonic lodges started in the late 18th century. Edward would incorporate many shapes, symbols and designs associated with Freemasonry and sacred geometry into the design and architecture of Coral Castle. An example can be seen at the entrance to Coral Castle with the hexagram sign. Another example of sacred geometry is his pond which has a 6 pointed star (hexagram) in the middle surrounded by 16 "waves" at the edge. Some claim that these numbers allude to the Golden Ratio also called Phi ( Φ) and phi (𝞅) which are 1.6 (rounded) and .6 (rounded). Edward would include many more hints such as these throughout Coral Castle.

After the move to the final location, Edward must have refined his methods and/or acquired new knowledge and skills that allowed him to work and complete Coral Castle within 2 years while now in his 50's. Pictures show Edward using a Tripod style hoist with chains and pulleys as well as a strange box on top of the hoist. In some pictures wires can be seen protruding from the boxes. This along with electrical-magnetic devices he made and books he wrote on electromagnetism have lead to speculation that Edward was using some sort of Anti-Gravity levitation to lift and move these massive chunks of oolite limestone. Edward created something he called the Perpetual Motion Holder. Some believe that Edward figured out how to use this device to help levitate the large limestone blocks either through magnetism, reverse polarity, levitation(anti-gravity) or a combination of these.

There have been many attempts at explaining how Edward Leedskalnin was able to accomplish this incredible work of art. There are those that believe he used traditional skills and tools of his time while others believe he used lost or hidden knowledge of the Ancients such as the Egyptians or Mayans who themselves built large stone monuments. Regardless of how or what he used, it did require hard work, ingenuity, tenacity, perseverance, dedication and love to create Coral Castle for the ages.

good (accidental) resteem :)

Maybe it was the Coral Castle Electromagnetism that moved your hand to click the re-steem button? lol
I'll take the boo boo any day. Thanks @dantheman

I intended to write a post on Coral Castle but I'm glad that you beat me to it. Now I don't have to. Well done.

Thanks @steemtruth It was kind of a difficult write up without getting to "far out there" but yet still trying to honor his work and love without diminishing his accomplishments with outer world explanations.

Awesome post, Some day I hope to check out that place in Homestead :)

Thanks @chadcrypto Be sure to blog about your trip if you do.

Thanks @virtualgrowth Not sure if you learned anything new but to show that this was a work of love. It started out as a work of love for his "sweet sixteen" but I think in the end he fell in love with the Coral Castle (and maybe the design of life) itself. I didn't want to get to caught up in the "theories" but rather what drove him. Thanks for your support.

More of a refresher than learning as I have read about this before and researched on how he may have actually gone about such incredible feats! Thank you very much for sharing. Think for sure he developed of a love for this incredible knowledge that he discovered.

@virtualgrowth What do you think ? hard work and ingenuity or something more?

More! He moved tons of rock by himself that construction companies can't even think about doing let alone do. He learned something about energy that few like Tesla knew.

His math education if I recall correctly was fourth grade level too!

He understood something about the numbers of 3, 6, 9, 37, and more...

My dad brought me there when I was about 8 and it literally changed my life. I developed a love for physics which never turned into a job, but which has benefited me in millions of other ways. Nice write up, beautiful photos.

They actually found film on how he did this, if interested ...
