Special Promotion for Usage of Encrypted Steemit Messages
The Hidden Gem:
A hidden gem in Steemit protocol, is the possibility to send encrypted messages. The benefits of this feature are really great, and I don't understand why this feature is not used more intense. A typical use case is sending private contact information, or probably more interesting, sending the promoted link to a voting bot in order to avoid that you get in the middle of a flag war.
How does it work?
Well, actually it's very simple: a memo starting with "# " (be aware of the space after the #) is encrypted with receiver's Memo Key (using the public key), and published to the blockchain. Everyone can read the encrypted message, but only the owner of the corresponding private key, can decrypt the content. This is how an encrypted message looks in my transaction log, and the corresponding blockchain entry:
And the very cool part of the implementation is that the decryption is not done on the Steemit server, but on the client side, making it, at least hypothetically, resistant to "man in the middle" attacks. I tried it, and yes, a user authenticated only using the Posting Key, is unable to display the encrypted note.

How do I send one? I know how to check one if I've received it, but not sure how to log in using the memo key? Do I just simply do the #? Any help on that? Thanks!
You do a transfer of minimum 0.001 SBD, and in the memo field you start the message with "# "
