I Have Some Good News and Some Bad News:

in #steemit6 years ago

Hello people!

Today I have some good news and some bad news. What of those would you like to hear first?

Well, most people start off by wanting to know the bad news so that's how's it going to be.

First, I'm going to tell you the bad news (which may not be such a bad thing when you really think about it), and then I'm going to tell you the exciting good news (heck, exciting for me at least).

First things first, the bad news are that the @cryptoempire bot is getting decommissioned.

Why?

Read below...

Why Am I Pulling the Plug on the @CryptoEmpire Bot?

You know me, and I'm always for adding value to the blockchain. I'm a firm believer that if this blockchain succeeds we all do, and there's no room for competition, just cooperation.

The STEEM Blockchain Ecosystem should work together to reach something worthy of people's time, and advertisers' and developers' money and interest.

As such, we though a bot that would give out nearly ALL its profits, even those that came from the votes themselves, posts and comments, and at the same time limit overbidding so people could have profits and not losses would add value.

I also added the @cryptoempire game on top of it, as a way to really add value to the blockchain.

Having said that, here's what after some heavy thoughts we concluded:

(from the bot's last post):

@eonwarped starting considering what would happen if the project would scale.

If the bot would grow, people would get profitable votes and delegators the payouts... this means the bot would be the best option since it would be the most profitable for the community - but this isn't good as it would basically work as a automatized circle jerk.

The implications of bidbots are heavy for the blockchain, some people think they are good, some people think they are bad, some are on the fence.

Unfortunately, after some intense research and thinking, we figured out Bid Bots, even the most noble ones, aren't good.

So we decided to terminate ours.

This experiment served to show us first hands what bid bots are and do.

The majority of the content being promoted was subpar, and this was certainly something @spiritualmax and @eonwarped didn't want to happen.

We also think other bid bot owners have close to no quality standards, or they would have no customers. Something has to be done... but that is something for another post.

... and also:

What we would like to tell you is that this learning experience made us see bid bots with another light, and that it also helped @spiritualmax to see that a game has ample audience right here on the blockchain so that's something worth pursuing.

We feel the game adds value and the bot really doesn't, and what doesn't add value should be weeded out the blockchain.

...so the good news is the game is here to stay, but on what form?

This is something I'll address on the next section.

The Good News: A STEEM Game Being Considered!

This takes us to the game part.

As an introduction, I'll share this bit from the bot's last post:

One of the really great things we took from this project was the @cryptoempire game!

The game, we think, adds a lot of value to the blockchain as people are really into it.

So, @spiritualmax saved it and is going to resume it... but how?

Now without a bot there are no more delegations and profits and the game is missing a core part of its gameplay.

Hence, @spiritualmax will pause it while he brainstorms on a way to resume it.

There's possibly a full game site coming and an SMT is being considered.

@Spiritualmax wishes to build a game on the STEEM blockchain, and so this needs time to really be set up.

So, as you see, there are some busy days of brainstorming ahead.

It's still not clear how the game will be tackled, but a site for it and probably an SMT would make sense... either that or a game with some OpenLedger assets.

This would be more complex, but also more fun, than the current game, and so it really has to be thought. On the other hand, it would be among the first RPG games to create an alt-economy, all thanks to the power of the STEEM Blockchain.

I also recorded the names of everyone on the game, and will tag them on future development posts - if you do not wish to be tagged, say so on the comments section down below.

Max, i posted on the @cryptoempire post:

What about use the bot delegated power to vote the comments of the players who delegated (or the posts,if they die in the game)? With due proportion of course... This could keep people interested on the game, and would keep the rewards being distributed...

I will await a response if this would be possible before taking the delegation back.

I'm considering several options... however, you can take the delegation back as I doubt it takes less than a week. I'm trying to pull some strings, talk to some developers...

I admit that I'm happy to hear about your stance towards bid bots
and I'm excited to hear about all your plans concerning the game that you're working on.

Best of luck - and more importantly - fun with that!

Xau,

Vincent

Im gonna fight the good fight towards a cleaner Steemit experience.

Have a good one in Algarve man, that place is great!

Interesting line of thougt on the game's future. Would look forward to how it works out.

Would? Why? You're leaving? xD I guess you mean will :D

This sounds like a positive development. I'm looking forward to seeing what the game looks like.

Coolio!
Cheers

Although I don't know how your game runs, you might like to study how the steempunk-net game works, and is running successfully. :)

Very differently... but yeah I am on Steempunk already :)

Oooh, under a pseudonym eh? I won't tell ... :D

Please consider me in any future games, ventures, and brainstorming sessions. Is it not a bit like D&D, but off the table.

Yeah, it has a lot of similarities with D&D. Noted!

sad news it was my favorite thing here.
but a good version 1.0
a almost think it can work without $$ but maby am to optimistic. :)
or just u can get some on quests and stuff but it make less sens here on steemit its a lot of work. a hope version 2.0 it will be back soon. :)

The new version will be enhanced, I guarantee it :D

can not wait have so many plans :P

It's sad, but it is good reasoning.

I am still not decided about how i feel about the bid-bots, because this kind of vote buying also happens on other social media, but here is more exposed. You clearly see who buy them, and the community can act acordingly (theorethicaly at least).

But i liked the game. Good to know you guys will keep it somehow.

Should i revoke the delegation from the bot?

Yeah I'm going to keep it, still don't know how, but definitely going to keep it.

Yeah, go ahead.

Makes sense in the long run. I think you'll come up with what you're looking for.

For some reason I see a brainstorming session with a pad of paper, a long list and some crumpled balls of paper.

It's much more modern now.... word files, chat logs and a lot of waiting for replies.

Hmm we could do openledger tokens now and slowly test them out and when SMT are out and have their own dex we do a token swap to the SMT platform.

That's something I'm also considering.
