SBD Price Drops Below Steem Price - How To Take Advantage Of This

in #steemit8 years ago

At this exact point in time, the SBD value is lower than the Steem value. Does this mean we have to change your actions on SteemIt?

SBD Price Drops

It was only yesterday that I was discussing this scenario with someone in a comment section of a post.
For the first time since I've joined SteemIt, the price of SBD has dropped below the price of Steem.

SBD price has dropped by 6.27% and is currently trading for only $5.03, while Steem price has gone up 4.01%, currently trading at $5.28.

While there's not a huge difference between both yet, if this trend will persist, it is going to raise a lot of questions.

The Effect Of This Price Shift

  • Do we have to take this price shift into consideration when using for example the 50/50 or 100% option?

  • Does it influence the author and/or curation rewards?

  • And what about exchanging earned SBD to Steem in order to power up?

  • Is powering up at this point a good idea in the first place?

I'll be looking for an answer to these questions and any other question that may be related to this issue, and I'll get back to you later.

Feel free to enlighten me if you can give some valid advice.

Hi, @simplymike.

Do we have to take this price shift into consideration when using for example the 50/50 or 100% option?

No, you should only consider 100 % Steem Power on your posts if SBD falls to/below $1. The internal value of the SBD is still at $1, so authors will always benefit as long as it's over $1.

I was thinking that 100% powerup was the best option to make your acc more powerfull in upvotes, but now I can see that it isn't true at all. If I choose 50/50, I could sell my SBD into SP and I'll gain more SP because of it. Am I wrong to presume that?

You are completely right. If you want as much Steem Power as possible, select 50/50, sell SBD on the internal market for Steem, then Power Up all those Steem. It is a bit more effort, but you got a lot more rewards by doing it this way ;)

And as noted above, the exception is if the value of SBD is = $1 or below that. But that is very unlikely to happen ;)

Thanks to promptly answer my question. Good luck to you and thanks again.

You're welcome, @micloop :)

Thanks @valth
I must admit I have never studied the matter before. So I decided this is the perfect time to start educating myself... :0)

It's pretty nice to get an understand of how the reward pool works! If you had tried to select 100 % Steem Power on your posts, you would potentially miss out on a lot of rewards.

Actually, I do not use the automated upvoting on my posts anymore. I do upvote my own posts, but only after like 3 days or so.

That's nice! It gives your followers a good chance to make some more curation rewards on your post, which is always a good thing ;)

50/50 for the win I think. Sell SBD for Steem to come out ahead.

As @valth points out in his comment above, going for 100% is only profitable when SBD is worth $1 or less

Very interesting post
