Jerry, don't worry! Money & Votes can't govern us

in #steemit6 years ago

After reading @Jerrybanfield's piece on Steem prices I was more worried about how bad he felt about the dropping steem prices. He's a guru. For many reasons, I got into this platform after following him on youtube and hearing what he had to say about Steemit. I'm sure he's inspired and got many people to embrace Steemit. But when he shows signs of unease, you wonder what's really going on. If the Crypto market is faced with a crisis, it's time to reflect.

Falling Crypto markets have never bothered me. I've got very little investment to worry anyway. It's not hard to understand why Jerry would worry, as he's moved quite a lot of his investments here earlier last year. Jerry joined Steemit in May 2017 and he's made close to 30,000 posts, has over 34k followers and more. Jerry has over 220k sitting in his wallet today. He religiously posts on the platform and I love following his stuff, whether it's on crypto or his music or his extended Dlive posts. All in all, this dude is a genuine voice for Steemians and we need him around to grow Steemit.

So when Jerry is trying to console you through his piece https://steemit.com/busy/@jerrybanfield/tips-to-survive-the-steem-dip, we know his intention is boost the steemian morale. He wants to reassure people who have moved here to grow their investments. After spending over 50 days on Steemit, I have to admit that I haven't met a single blogger or member here who has moved here to make money. Most of them are thrilled to get a few cents their way for their posts, but from my interaction with them steemians, I strongly feel that these bloggers are here 'coz of how well the community engage with each other. It's a solid network to say the least.

Money and votes can't govern us. Steemit is human life inching towards real decentralisation

I do like the idea of churning out a good return from here. If I get hold of some spare cash, I'm more than likely to move it here and Power Up. So I can understand the unease form that point of view. But after curating and reading what's going on it's safe to conclude that most Steemians are around for the human experience more than anything else. The human experience that's missing on Facebook or elsewhere.

Steemit is like Airbnb and Facebook is like the Trump Hotel. When you stay in an Airbnb, you generally get to interact with the host, you even grow a friendship. Even after you leave the accomodation, there are high chances that you'd stay in touch with your host. It makes you part of a real global village. Facebook on the other hand is a different kettle of fish. Most friends on Facebook are caught up in a race to impress. The community is feeding into fear and anxiety. It's abetting suicide. It's not all bad, but definitely Facebook is a super power and super powers can tend to be evil.

So Jerry, relax! We are here for the experience. The money is great. But I think even if the entire crypto market crashes and bitcoin becomes defunct, we should continue marching on. 'Coz what we are building is the next step of social media or a new phase in media itself. We have a collective moral responsibility to continue with this journey at least for a few decades. Let the price dip 63%. We won't worry it!

In the end, remember, nothing lasts forever. The only thing that matters is the journey. And I can tell you @jerrybanfield, this journey has only started and we have a long way to go.

Its a bad news for the whales and dolphines who are holding large amount of Steem, while minnows are not affected. They just want to grow thier steempower and reputation first. The problem is that if the price of steem keeps decreasing so do the rewards. Steemit will need to find ways to reward users other than traders and speculators . Keep the hope high and things will fall in place soon. Have a nice day!

Yep. Realistically not for long. I'm sure it will bounce back. With the number of new members joining each day, I don't think we will have dearth of growth. I don't understand why steemit can't break away from the regular swings of the crypto market. This seems to be an eco-system that has nothing to do with BTC....apart from the general mood of the market.

Like many people I love the vibes of steemit!

It's not always about making money, it's about making friendship, reading high quality content, getting to know amazing people all over the world, moving from centralized to decentralized social media where you have no restrictions and much more. You can be part of something bigger. That's how, I think.

Thank you @sidsun for sharing this!

That's it..we are like minded :)
