OPEN WALLET. Why "they" do that?

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I'm newbie on the STEEMIT and in the world of cryptocurrencies, but I thought that privacy is the advantage of blockchain technology. Even on the basis of the rules of real life, you should never show how much money you have. when you will not be robbed?-when thief will think that you have nothing to steal.

So it's strange for me that you can view wallets of all users, and see what amount they have. This provokes hackers and greatly simplifies them work on choosing victims. You can easily make the script for filtering the values of steem power and SBD. I can assume only a few options, why the developers decided to make open wallets.

  • Marketing | Psychology. Any user on the example of the other participants can see that STEEMIT gives the real opportunity to earn good money. The user can also see the movements of currency and understand what to do with it, following the actions of big players, and to learn from them. For example - investment in the project.
  • Deliberate Provocation of hackers to detect vulnerabilities at an early stage of the project. It is better to carry out these measures now, when easier to provide a refund of currency to a small group of users, than when the project will grow to 1,000,000 users... (STEEMIT will).
  • For the outside developers. No need close this function on the website, if you made project with open-source. Simplifies the creation of statistical and analytical services for the the platforms by the users.
  • The creators have abandoned/forgotten about it. However, taking into account how quickly they improve the project, it's unlikely...maybe it's Masonic conspiracy?

I don't have money in my wallet, so I don't know how users, who already have large sums, relate to this function . Are they feeling some psychological discomfort? Would you like if any passer-by could to get into your pocket, grab your wallet, and check out all the cash and cards?

This is not a post of hate or discontent. I wanna understand how does STEEMIT works, and what can we expect from tomorrow. Will glad to hear comments from all users

Transparency is actually what makes the blockchain system so great and gives it such potential for being applied to the political world.

I understand the concern of people seeing everyone elses wallets. but one thing it does is forces people to be responsible and take encryption more seriously... 16 digit encryption is great but why not 30 digits ;)

lol meanwhile most bank cards are only 4 digits

But users cannot take full responsibility for security. Open their financial status means to put them under the blow.

it's not open to use unless they have your password.

Yes the top wallets on the blockchain might be targeted but if their properly secured the hacker would just be wasting their time

and in my eye's seeing someone's wallet is no different then seeing someone drive an expensive car or post pics of it on facebook etc... a target is a target is a target

because you are not criminal:)

no but if I was I'd see someone driving an expensive car the same as I would think of seeing a big wallet on a blockchain... target

the term is "to get got" when your flashing around expensive thing's not realizing they make themselves a target to the poor and desperate.

You are right. And you are clever enough for do not walk with Rolex in the poor district. That's mean you are hiding your status when its need. Is STEEMIT poor district? Who knows, but you don't have a choice in how you will looks here.

do you think the clever criminal sits in his poor neighborhood? or does dress up and go to where there is actually something to steal ?

I get your point about not being able to hide it, but look at the big BTC wallets... worth millions yet if their online everyone can see them. of course offline is always the safest.

I am curious to see if there is "paper wallets" of some sort or a way to store them offline.

But in all honesty my banks website only allows for 8 digit security... so half as secure as your steemit account ;)
