Remember When it Was Possible to Make Money on Steemit?

in #steemit5 years ago

And it was worth it to post something, even work hard on it? Those were the good old days. Even now, I have so much stuff I’d like to post. But errrrr.

Sort:

scorum!

Haha it's fun to listen to stories, grandpa.

No wait.

If you want to pretend to be hopeful, you can post your stories now, get a decent amount of Steem in payouts because of the low Steem Price and when our dreams come true and Steem goes "to the moon" (maybe like $1) then you're rich!

It's not just the price. It's the fact that the delegation feature and the bots have diluted the distribution to the point of people's upvotes being worthless in terms of how much STEEM they allocate, regardless of the price.

If we still had 2016-2017 distribution, the current price wouldn't even be an issue, and it'd totally be worth it to post daily.

I didn't even think about it before, but the delegation feature actually is partially problematic. It does have some serious benefits, but currently the largest benefits gained from it could be handled in different ways which wouldn't allow the delegation to be used for bots and other crap.

I don't.

Haha, I remember them days! <~~~~~first comment in half a year 🥴

You’re still here! :)

Thought I would come back and see what has been going on! Seems a lot of interesting things.

Also the low price enticed me back. How have you been?

Oh, shit. I missed this reply.

I’ve been good. Working on my BRO project. About to launch something on Friday.

Would you happen to be interested in jumping on a voting trail that will help support our development?

Also - what is this tokencasinos.com thing? Are you part of that, or just a user?

Sorry @ats-david, I missed this one too, lol.

Yes I will be part of the voting trail, and will look more into the project.

Oh tokencasinos.com is a website of mine to promote traffic to bitcoin casinos. I get a little commission from players that have registered through my website.

I also have a few great crypto domains I am looking to sell. Need money to go back to school..., errr and cigar money. ;-P

Give me the details of the voting trail.

Cheers!

It seems you came too early. I am sorry, I started in March 18 and do not know such problems

I never come too early.

I am really proud of you but garbage like just two lines of text upvoted through bots in the trends and the Circle Jerks I know anyway since the beginning. Have the people from 2016 got their thousand steem really all (almost) given for free...wait and see and drink tea. And even don't tip anything away too early

I see it differently.

While i don't make alot on Steem (Maybe 1-2k USD withdrawn into cash / exchanged for goods), Even if Steem falls all the way to the bottom of the ocean, the friends i made along the way and the opportunity I've gotten because of the things i did here was worth every single post I made.

I've given up the hope of making big bucks here.. More like Beermoney for me. That and hanging out with the friends i made whose only common is us being Steemians.

I already have friends. I was here for the money. It was the thing that made Steemit stand out. Purely as a social media site, Steemit is nothing special, and is way worse than its competitors.

Come for the money, leave for the lack of it. Just being realistic here.

Pretty much. I’ve wanted to write recently, but it just doesn’t feel worth it. It does because of the few readers. But then it all comes back being annoyed with Steemit.

I can't say i disagree with you. Steem is an experiment to see if a social media can form around the premise of making money.

It's not mature enough to even compete with highly engineered dark pattern perfect websites designed to suck you in the platform and keep you glued. Honestly I don't even consider Steem to be the same category as Facebook, Medium etc...

I guess that's the case for everything in the cryptocurrency space. It's the Internet 95' all over again, why watch shitty resolution videos on about Elephants Youtube when there are good TV shows.

Elephants are great tbh.

Lol, exactly my point.

I remember it well.

You can always post it for free on any centralized platform out there if it makes you feel better.

Centralized is better than decentralized anyway tbh. I think that, if nothing else, Steemit works a showcase of how and why decentralization is a pipe dream that doesn't work.

People and communities need strong leaders who get shit done. And who keep people in check. And punish them for negative behaviour.

I was a libertarian when I joined Steemit.

I was a fascist when I left.

You haven't left. In fact, you've been powering up.

Look at my posting history tbh. I constantly want to post a lot of stuff, but I can't muster the motivation because I know how pointless it is. Sometimes I drop an easy shitpost.

Your disappointment is caused by the fact that you are expecting to be rewarded at the same level you were in the very beginning in 2016 when there was a huge speculative pump of STEEM price while the inflation rate was much higher than now. I doubt very much that your content has ever been consistently of a level similar to professional writers get published and paid for like professionals in mainstream publications. You just got a lucky break by discovering Steem at just the right moment.

I noticed you have very little stake for being around since 2016 and, according to you, enjoying very high rewards at one time. You must have been constantly selling. As the number of Steemians has gone up while the inflation rate has gone down, it is the expected thing for the average post getting progressively lower rewards even in terms of STEEM. You haven't been building your stake. That may not have gone unnoticed by some of the higher stake holders that have upvoted your content in the past. Also, you are not taking into account that the share of bloggers of the reward pool has gone down as apps for other purposes have been created and have been increasingly drawing from the (diminishing) reward pool.

Now you're blaming your low current rewards on bid bots - or even the fact that decentralization is a failed idea. Before bid bots people were complaining about whales circle voting.

Even I got rewarded to the tune of €400 worth of SBD and SP for by best rewarded post ever when the price of STEEM abd SBD were simultaneously extremely in January last year - without using bid bots. That was a for a very simple and modest "walk with me" type of photography post that a couple of whales dumped big upvotes on. However, I was never deluded enough to think of that as a normal for me. The truth of the matter is that nearly all of us have been grotesquely overpaid here - and still are. Even the rewards we are enjoying now are a side effect of cryptocurrency valuations being justified by little else but vague promises.

Oh, absolutely. No one here "deserves" anything, per se. I was just pointing out that this place used to be a money tree that existed outside of the boundaries of the "real world" and "real world logic".

But then people fucked it.

And I'm glad I sold at the peak. Obviously - looking at the prices now - it was the right move to make.

There's nothing admirable about being a dumb bagholder.

Oh, absolutely. No one here "deserves" anything, per se. I was just pointing out that this place used to be a money tree that existed outside of the boundaries of the "real world" and "real world logic".

But then people fucked it.

Nobody fucked it.

Money trees that exist outside of the boundaries of the real world cannot last for very long. We have seen a couple of huge speculative pumps allowing some people have made a killing by selling at the top. That's all. The only whose who fucked anything were those who bought at the top. But that's how speculation works.

Speculation and the monetary storms in the glass of water notwithstanding, if you look at the actual value of the Steem ecosystem, it has gone up tremendously with all the new apps and Steemit Inc having got stuff done, too.

STEEM is ranked at #48 at Coinmarketcap. Down from the top 10 spot it once had.

Even Dogecoin is higher.

I don't know, $0.33 (so far) on a couple of sentences seems over inflated to me. ;)

The amount would be the same, no matter what. That's the thing. That's why effort is pointless.

The same applies to America.
