Steemit Soundboard – How Much Time Are You Putting In?
There have been a handful of posts over the past couple months with people announcing their full-time dedication to steemit. In the end I wish those people the best of luck. However, must of us have jobs and plethora of other responsibilities going on while we participate on steemit.
I’d really just like to take the opportunity to let people share their story, situation, effort, etc.
The bottomline is whether our posts get upvoted or not – we all get tired, lack motivation or just feel burned out from time to time.
Me personally – the goal is to post an original piece of content on steemit daily.
Over two months this goal has been met with the exception of a day or two when traveling.
Additionally - I read, upvote and comment on posts daily as well.
This all obviously takes time.
Something that is a commodity. Especially for those with spouses and children (I don’t know how you do it, kudos to you.)
I work a full time job and am also an active real estate investor (though not as active since finding steemit!)
With that said – would say I average roughly 20 hours a week working on steemit. So basically, picked up a part time job? ;-)
I know some others are doing way more, especially those doing development type work. Shout out to @jester, @bitcoiner, @blueorgy and the dozens others I forget cause my brain is steemit fried..hahaha
So Why Do We Do It?
Everyone has there reasons, but I do it because I believe in the potential growth of this platform.
Because I enjoy exchanging information and knowledge with people. Especially, adding value to people’s lives. I love if/when I help people make wiser financial decisions.
And let’s be real too – this is also an investment . I have fiat $ in steemit along with a ton of sweat equity so of course I'm motivated to help this community grow by contributing and interacting.
What’s Your Deal?
I want to hear from everyone what type of hours they put in and why they do it. Let’s take this moment to express it, vent it, share it. Whatever it is you need to get you recharged!
At one point I was attempting to put one post per day on Steemit, but more recently I have dialed it back to about 3-4 posts per week. I started out in nice doing US Tax Considerations pieces and, quite by accident, fell into subcultures, which became my best performing blogs.
I have always been fascinated by the tribes we humans form and the things we do to find acceptance. The research for each piece and the writing and editing can take about 8-10 hours per piece. Each one is a labor of love and the process is very much a love-hate dynamic towards the end. I also do a hidden gems blog, curating great content from other writers from time to time, while maintaining a day job and a family.
I never considered myself a writer. I originally got into this to earn some STEEM for speculative trading, but I find it's something that satisfies a piece of me that needs to create. Ironically, I never spoke about or shared any of my writing here with friends or family until very recently. Things have become interesting since then.
That's awesome, glad you found an outlet that you didn't even realize you needed/wanted. :-)
One of the more entertaining parts to this is how weird the auto fill feature on Google has become since I started delving into and writing about subculture. I'm sure someone is amused at Google just looking at my search terms.

I like the post. Yesterday, I wrote a popular article regarding my Newbie experience here on SteemIt. It is past the first pay-out, but I thought I would go ahead and post my experience.. Since you asked. I am doing this full-time. https://steemit.com/steemit/@whatsup/the-life-of-a-minnow-why-you-should-care-part-one
@whatsup - cool will do. I wish you luck on the full time endeavor. No idea what your specific situation is, but may want to check out the post I did a month ago about being prepared to quit a job and go steemit full time. Please Don't Quit Your Job Yet
I'm not really sure how much time I'm putting in to Steemit. I put up about one or two pieces a day, so I guess that takes about 5 hours. Then I try to interact with people on here, commenting on at least 5 posts a day. So I might be working on it for about 40 hours a week. If only I could keep laser-focused for all those hours, I'd probably be the king of Steemit by now.
Haha - I hear you...I do 20 hours of actual writing and curating. Who knows how may additional hours are just fuzz.
great thoughts thanks for sharing

time is the most valuable commodity for sure!
Time has practically lost all meaning for me lately, I have so many different things going on. But, I at least have Steemit open in one of my computer tabs for most of my work day, even if I'm not actually using it. The amount of time I put into Steemit varies, depending on how much time I have to give to it on any given day. I've got other jobs, clients, a book that has to be finished and ready for release by Oct. 29, I'm in the middle of a move, in the middle of adopting a child....and I'm sure there are other things I'm not remembering right now. But, I do make time for Steemit, as often as I can. I feel it is an investment in my time and my effort that will eventually pay off as the site grows and gains popularity.
Wow, that is a full plate. I'm writing a real estate book, but luckily do not have a deadline. Be sure to share the details of your book when it launches!
I devote to Steemit all the possible time of my 24 hours. Can't count it precisely, but I get up at about 5:30 am, and am up till around midnight, this week it's been even longer. Of course, I'm not spending the all time to Steemit, as I'm the one with a spouse, a six-months-old child, and I've also started my own company recently, so I have loads of things to do there, still, any moment at all I could find - I'm on Steemit, mostly it's when my daughter is sleeping, as it's rarely possible when she's awake! But there is also a huge exception - the weekends. On the weekends priority shifts to the family, and I visit Steemit only if I have a moment, usually it's in the early morning, while my husband and daughter are sleeping. Mostly I use this time to read the articles of others, but I also can spend that time for other ways of self-development, e.g. learning a course on coursera.org, or reading a book or articles on other websites.
Why I do it? I have thought about it a lot, and the answer that keeps coming to me all the time - I am learning here. It never stops to astonish me how many possibilities to learn are here on Steemit, at least for me. As I want to become a decent blogger - the first thing I'm learning is to write. I also try to learn to do things, especially research faster - I'm an "idealist" by nature, which means I keep searching and looking, and never feel like I know enough to publish an article, I always feel like i know nothing no matter how many hours I've spent on research. Lately I decided that it's better to post "not ideal" article than not to post one at all. It should be of good quality, though. And by good quality I mean - the best quality I'm able to produce at the given moment in life, then get feedback, re-evaluate articles in some time, that's how I learn and try my best to do better next time.
I even learn to interact with people in comments and learn to chat, as I didn't do these things earlier.
And not to mention almost limitless diversity of articles on all topics one could imagine - read and learn anything you want!
So, this is the main reason I'm here - to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Of course, I more than happy to get rewards here as well, as I put here so much time and also have invested some money here, too.
Thanks for your proposal to think about it, I feel it's very necessary to understand the why are you doing what you're doing. It's not necessary to share it, if one doesn't want to, but it's important to think about it. I myself felt like telling it all here, since you encouraged that. I feel like it's just what I needed. :)
That's awesome, glad I could provide a platform for expression! Yes, knowing the "why" in anything you do is very important. It's also a great book, called - "Start with Why" if you have not read it.
Thanks, will keep that book in mind!
