We Need "History" In Steemit !!
Old articles are Gone after 7 days
Well, they are not totally gone. It is only that steemit.com will not list them anymore! Suppose that you have read an article about a certain subject like EOS, steemit-tutorials, bitshares, d-tube, daily steemit reports, mining or whatever subject. Now, suppose that you wanted to read more about that subject. What would you do?
You would click on the category tag to read more about the subject. Then, you will be directed to the trending page of that category. The problem is that this page will only contain new posts that are 7-days old or less. You will not find older posts. I did not find any way to get a list of ALL articles (including old ones) that are tagged with a certain category.
Why Is It Important?
Some posts are just hit-and-run posts aimed to get some fast rewards. However, some posts are like gems. Their expiration date is much longer than 7 days. It would be a real waste for them to disappear like this. Take for example the toolkit series statred by @sndbox:

@sndbox has published some really high-quality content that is so much needed for the new steemian. Some examples are:
If you read one of those articles, you would definitely want more. However, if you click on the toolkit page, you would see that it is totally empty!! The articles are there (it's a blockchain!), but steemit.com does not display them. Do you see the problem now?
The dev-team has announced that many improvements are to be expected. I hope that fixing this issue is one of them.

I have the same issue with the resteem button. You can't resteem anything more than 7 days old, meaning Steemit thinks if a post doesn't bring money, it doesn't have a value anymore.

Even if I could, it would not be practical at all
Every now and then I get some comments on very old posts. Everytime I wonder how the heck they found those posts.
I usually stumble on old posts when I use the search page.
Probably from a users profile page - listing all available posts and clicking on them. That is the only way on how I do it.

No, it is an experiment run by @biophil. He created a steem subchain called: Pocket. He defines it as follows:
