Growing A Community P.3

Earlier this month I was invited to help participate in organizing and growing the Japanese community, which you can read about here, Growing A Community In Japan and here, Japanese Community Account. Some of you may know I run @steemitbc along with @paulag, @boxcarblue and @eroche. I will admit it has been bumpy, but I've learned a lot about people, communities and Steemit.

I'm taking those lessons learned and helping to build the Southern California Steemit Community. Along with @derekrichardson and @csusbgeochem1 we have officially gotten the ball rolling. https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@socalsteemit/introducing-the-so-cal-steemit-users-community-account

The 3 of us had the first So. Cal. Steemit meetup on Wednesday. @creationofcare and @mattlovell were also supposed to join, but unfortunately couldn't make it.

Since Southern California is such a big place we scheduled the meetup to occur at a centralized point about 45 min away from were all of us live, a Buffalo Wild Wings in Orange!

The agenda was simple, get the account set up, explain what is going on in Japan, how we should mirror that initiative and promote! However, since only 3 of us attended we held off on assigning responsibilities like event organizer, community leader, etc. until the next meetup in February. So if you are in Southern California, reading this and would like to get involved DO IT!

After we got the business out of the way we showed off some treasures each of us have collected form around So. Cal. I think Derek won though with his gold nugget collection from the local mountains!

Please follow and upvote the @socalsteemit community account! And be sure to check out @derekrichardson and @csusbgeochem1! They have great blogs!

Thanks for reading!

Nice nugs of gold. I really wish I could get out to California with my GPZ 7000, there is no gold here in Canada

Ah, no way man! Check those rivers! Tons of gold from those mountains. Or are you on the Eastern side? Might have to get a Sandshark for the rivers though....

FYI Derek is pulling those out of the East Fork of the San Gabriel river if you want to research it. There's still gold in them thar hills!

Awesome user name btw. 🤣

I live in Edmonton which is about a 3 hour drive to the rocky mountains. I have tried detecting in the cascades in the Kootnays and in the Rockies and nothing. Not a single piece . Sadly Ive made more mining crypto than I have ever mining gold. I will be sure to check these places out. It would be nice to dig something other than trash for once

lol, ya well digital gold works, almost as exciting too. Followed ya. Would love to know more about Canada. Seems you guys might be the new mining hub of the world.

If you are talking about crypto mining, yup. We have an infinite source of cold temperatures for large portion of the year and access to tons of cheap energy. Why not take advantage of it if you can. Thanks for the follow, ill do that same.

Nice to see you Fellow Steemians!!!! Blessings from Pakistan for my Steemit community

Cheers. Likewise!

hopefully run smoothly sir. 😎👌

Smooth as silk so far... 👍

Hi @rt395,
Been following your community building posts for Japan and South Cal.
Me and a few others are trying to build up one for our country Singapore too. We realised there are only a handful of steemians here. Hoping to spread the words and gain more support and momentum.
If you can, do direct me to any users, posts, or websites for tips on building a community, pls? Thanks!

That's a good question. I don't recall any step by step posts on how to build a community. I will check though. Have a look at @stephenkendal.

Basically you need a monthly meetup, a community leader, an event organizer, social media manager, which includes steemit, and a Steemit account. Once you have those it should grow organically.

A friend of mine, @ackhoo is in Malaysia, but maybe up in Kuala Lampur. I'm not sure about the Malaysian/Singapore relationship, but you may want to reach out to her for more members.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

Thanks for all the pointers there. More digging to do.
I'll ping you again if I need more advice, hope you don't mind :)

Not at all. I love to help people.

Excellent work that you are doing my friend @rt395
Good luck with your project to publicize the steemit.com platform and increase the participation of the Japanese community.

Thank you Steemito. We are seeing more Japanese sign up everyday!

awesome finds. Meets up rock. i was meant to go to one yesterday but saturdays my husband works and I am left to do all the kids activities. Always see to miss the meetup because of it

It's hard to believe no one set one up in California before.

Family takes priority. Do you guys do them in the evening?

the one in Dublin starts at 4 in a cafe and moves to a pub at about 5:30. My hubby doesn't get home before 7:30 ANY evening and its an hour commute into dublin for me so its just to difficult
