This Minnow Experienced Curation Today!
It's early morning for me in North America and I didn't want to toss in bed, so I got up to steemit.
Moments ago, I wrapped up over 2 hours of...
Hmm... - not sure what to call it, an ordeal or first curation attempt?
Both are true, the hours were tortuous in that I have no software tools to assist in my efforts to search and filter based on timestamp range, my interests, tags, were posts done by my followers, other fish or whales, do they meet any of my interests.
Using the scroll bar was the main ordeal, because when I scroll too slowly or for very long, then posts will jump around, up or down and you may see a post repeatedly unless I scroll down very quickly.
So that feels like a rat race!
I do wish to beta test features that will address this search and filtering posts/resteems problem.
But I am a content provider and wasn't interested in curation, even though I have some curation rewards because that is a side-effect of meeting and greeting my followers-who I also follow.
I definitely am not resonating with curation at my level of usage.
However I noted some puzzling features:
Sometimes when I accidentally retraced my trail in searching and stumbled upon a post I already resteemed, I had no way of knowing (after I had forgotten I already did this!) it was resteemed already. Then a message scrolls in from the lower left screen to inform me of my error - what a bummer.
I noticed there was a inconsistent feature with a green resteemed icon that unfortunately is limited in its help, in that often resteemed posts will show the green icon and oftens it will not!
Stop toying with me resteem green-thingy!
Very frustrating and unreliable feature/tool.
You will notice on my profile page about 27 posts were resteemed before this posted.
Those are all the results of this experience I am now sharing with you.
*From that short trial run, I guess I will call it that for now, I learned that I found a lot of whale content did not appeal to me - and the trending was even worse material, in my opinion.
In fact I am not surprised by that, because you FISH ARE AWESOME!
A dear friend and also a steemit-minnow, though he may have been with steemit some days earlier than me, said:
Some are here for making a buck and telling the world about it - others are here because they have a passion to contribute valuable content and experiences with others so that they too may prosper.
And BOY-O-BOY in trending, I saw a lot of wish-to-make-a-buck-and-show-it-to-you posted in whale $ sums!
However, before I leave you with a lasting impression curation is "bad", I easily recall (instead of forgetting) a seasoned steemian @holoz0r who posted a novel concept for steemit - it's a novel written on steemit by a steemian. He explained why here
Did you catch my novel pun? LOL 😃
Ha-ha, I now realize I'm exhausted and I need to go have breakfast. 😃
No more rambling from me, I'm wishing you joy!
If you find this information useful or of value then please share it with others.
steemit forward.
If you like this post, do not forget to upvote or follow me or resteem
The sheer volume of posts on Steemit makes this a Sisyphus enterprise. If you add content, within a minute or two you're already on page three of "new" posts. After an hour you're ancient history.
If you check Steemit a couple of times a day, the odds are high that you've missed countless things that would have interested you. So curation is limited and random.
Seems like Steemit really makes sense if you come to it with a large following from somewhere else. (Especially content providers from YouTube who were demonitized.)
As a user if you only follow a few such people you know from YouTube etc, then you can have an overview of what interests you, and reward things you enjoy and appreciate.
Otherwise, it can feel like you've taken a job in a virtual world -- like working in a Sims game.
If I have something that's interesting, I'll share it. If someone sees it and learns something, or has a nice moment, great, but after a couple of weeks here I no longer entertain any illusions -- given the constant cascade of posts there is little chance of gaining much traction.
Anyway, I liked your post, so you got my random upvote!!
@roused AWESOME comment - this minnow thanks you!
I agree w/ Your quotes:
Unfortunately, TOO TRUE!
...
I may adopt your suggestion, after I assist my neighboring minnows following.
Ha-ha I refuse to re-enter the rat-race or debt or mass deception systems.
I will have to see where steemit's platform path leads - already censorship and security-platform issues have surfaced...
:-0
I hadn't heard about the censorship & security issues!
Initially I simply followed those who followed me, but then I found there were folks whose account was only a month old and they were following several thousand people. That's really a case of being lost in the woods so to speak.
I like Steemit because it isn't as snarky as Twitter, but I'm also thinking of winding down to just supporting those demonitized folks and randomly posting and curating as a momentary diversion -- certainly not as a cyber job ;-)
Ha-ha I didn't know you are in my minnow class: June 2017 ! LOL 😃
Steemit has not felt our collective presence yet, I can imagine some steem power posts and upvotes from our class in the future could rock their world view!
How do i look up my vote power can some one help me out im new to steemit thank.
