I agree. I don't make an effort to go to the zoo anymore. Here is some interesting literature to that point:

Also, this is the only zoo I would consider (in the US). It's a pretty unorthodox set-up for zoos. http://www.bayouwildlifezoo.com/ But even then, I'm hesitant.
