Truthseeker's Dilemma: Harassment or Diligence? - On the Persecution of @earnest #steemit

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Tagged in #introduceyourself, due to the fact this has to do with an #introduceyourself perceived "scam"

So I came across a user @earnest who's posts were flagged to death and who was accused of stalking

Despite his coarse tone, it seemed to me tha t all he wanted to do was to make sure a potential scammer didn't get away with her ruse.

Now is there any proof @lauralemons was lying? Not all.

Is accusing someone of fabricating rape serious? Yes, and I wouldn't recommend it.

However, isn't a little skepticism healthy?

Doesn't it discourage scammers in the future to lie, for fear that they'll be pursued?

What's the correct approach in addressing someone thought to be dishonest?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this matter.

Clarity is easily obtained by some observation of how these supposed victims conduct themselves.

If as soon as anything about her narrative is questioned or put under some scrutiny, she condemns everybody for criminal insensitivity, abuse, harassment, stalking, and in some eventualities she brings up newspeak like being triggered, word-rape, verbal assault - then you have the classic case of an internet diva.

At this point her actual personal history becomes irrelevant, because this person is wielding cultural norms, presumptions, and her special female advantage as a weapon to attack her imaginary enemies on the internet and make them shut up. This is already utterly hostile and deceptive, regardless of what the actual history may or may not be. It's the difference between the open handed slap of an annoyed woman guarding her dignity and an opponent who unexpectedly pulls a knife. You learn to really dislike knives, don't care who pulls it, whether it's a woman, or a child... once that knife comes out, the time for talk is over, you shoot to kill.

If you tolerate any use of victimhood as a tool toward various selfish ends or allow victimhood to be somehow heroic, you are always going to be her fool, and other women will be tempted to emulate her for fun & profit.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. If it wasn't for her huffing and puffing, I might've been sympathetic.
A while back I accused @jennamarbles of being deceptive, she calmly proved me wrong.

No reason @lauralemons could not do the same!

Interesting post! Definitely liked it!

I originally wanted to write a blog post about it... did anyone notice that dan proposed a constitution for Steemit.com? I haven't seen that idea picked up since the great new wave two weeks ago.

With ~30,000 users, this is a small town at best and already, there develop these "old internet" style feuds.

With the difference that this time, everyone could have a say in the development of rules and laws, or at least norms and protocols. A minimal consensus on how to behave.

What about nominating arbiters for cases like these, and those that will follow?

where do you stand on this particular case?

I am neutral, because my interest in this particular case is limited and the information incomplete. That is why I generalized, predicted that this will not be the last case of its sort and proposed that this new-formed community sit together and discuss in... earnest... which protocols and consensus to follow.

So if there are policing bots on the street already, there should be a place to call to in cases of true or perceived injustice as well, so the community can decide what's cool and what's not - in each particular case.

You should be a diplomat. :) I know I need some on my side,
BTW the fiction rape storyteller just got upvoted by @dantheman
now her victimhood is worth 400 dollars. Food for thought.
