We need a mute feature to protect women from stalkers. I know because I have one.

in #stalker8 years ago (edited)

This is the newest spam of harassment from @earnest I have received.

I woke up to 15 messages on one blog. Of him repeatedly demanding proof I gav my boyfriend BTC for my donation to RAINN. My interactions financially with my boyfriend are none of his business and no sane people give shit what name was on my donation.

A few weeks ago he started his harassment with this blog.

https://steemit.com/reportabuse/@bacchist/cyber-bullying-earnest

More of his comments:

(There are actually many more on that blog, many were downvoted so he went back and left about 6 more.)

here are comments on an unrelated to me blog where he's tagging me to say how I am lying about being raped:

Keep in mind there are many, many more comments like this. I wake up to 10-30 daily and any time I post or comment on anything he floods me with abuse. If you go to this user's history almost everything he does is related to me and he comments on my blogs all day, every day. To the point of scary, stalker obsession.

I am taking a break and hoping for the mute feature to be activated or for something to be done when an account is literally created just to abuse/stalk women.

He also comments on peoples comments on my blog constantly as well. Sometimes just to say how "slow" I am/insult me in some way and has also started harassing some women who have stood up for me. It is a real problem.

Please make steemit safe for women @ned @dan

Steemit needs some equivalent of the Reddit karma. It doesn't have to be on-chain and can be computed by Steemit.com based on the number of downvotes other posts from the poster have garnered in the past. Comments of posters with lower Karma would appear lower in the list, and comments from posters with consistently negative karma would appear collapsed by default or would not appear at all. To avoid blacklisting indefinitely a poster, karma can be computed using an exponentially weighted moving average applied to a sliding window over a specific period of time (a week or a month for instance). This would allow the poster to redeem himself by posting constructively once his past offences are old enough to have less weight in the karma calculation. However, due to the lack of past positive content diluting the penalty, should the poster keep posting offensive content after being rehabilitated, the algorithm would blacklist him again right away.

Level of blacklisting can be tiered in three tiers depending on the level of karma:

  1. sent to bottom of thread
  2. bottom of thread + collapsed by default
  3. not even displayed

This would only apply to steemit.com, and not to the blockchain that would remain unchanged.

100% agreed, if implemented well enough it should be a great solution to many problems.

I have to say, I was getting worried about the implications that features like mute would have to legit accusations. You're idea seems like a fair balance for free speech. People should be able to put their reputation on the line to back up an accusation or other unpleasant information but the community should also be able to ostracize people who repeatedly cry wolf without acknowledging they where wrong. I think your idea would also incentivize would-be-accusers to get their case in order and post their proof and engage in debate with civility and take criticism with humble grace. please accept my upvote for your constructive contribution :)

Also I want to do the secret writer: fake stories idea now."

see the comments section:

a mute button would only mute a user for you, not for everyone else.
like on twitter if you mute someone you won't see his posts , but other people can still see them.

Upvoted because you consider not perma-banning which is anti-Censorship imo.

That is an amazing idea!

He has problems and he is pushing them onto. This sucks. The community will fix this, I am confident. Not sure what form it will take but we are going to have creeps like this always so solutions will be needed.

I also think keeping steemit safe for women is crucial. Anything I can do to help, let me know.

I hope so. I hope to come back but for now I feel forced, for my own happiness, to take a break until that happens.

I agree if we want to make this a safe place for anyone there should be a blocking function. That way if creepy stalker dudes hate your posts they can mute you instead of posting about you constantly and harassing you on every post like a child in need of attention.
This is absolutely horrifying that someone is this obsessed with proving you wrong, when you have done nothing wrong.
I hope this break helps and maybe this abuser will leave you alone or they will implement a blocking function. Upvoted <3

You are using the term safe space in a different manner for what I meant. Calm tf down.

The other message does not have a reply button so i answer here:

You can talk about whatever you want

Oh, yeah? What do you mean by it?

lol how dare i talk about my diagnosed mental illness.
done engaging you guys, not worth my time.

We are also using the downvote function in a different manner. Don't tell me to calm down, you have no idea if I was calm or not

Changed my mind, have your downvote back

Take into account that @roninwoods is the author of such jewels of content as:
https://steemit.com/mental/@roninwoods/i-am-severely-mentally-ill-and-i-am-okay
and on that note check @stellabelle 's last post

But remember, Im the psychopath, not Laura and her supporters.

Lets get this to the top of the development list. As in the item to take care of right now.

I agree, what could be more important for steemit that the needs of a pathetic liar trying to con the community with fiction rape stories and any victim card she can come up with?

This is an issue that it would be nice to see some action on. It's important to protect women, and all users for that matter, from this type of abusive behavior.

Exactly, its important to protect men and women equally, to give them the same opportunities.
If a man would have posted the "content" Laura posts he would get no reward.
Laura is rewarded for pretending to be a victim. That has to change.

@lauralemons, I looked through some of your posts and the comments and noticed that there were a number of comments that I did need to flag.

So, I did some flagging using a well vested account. I'm going to keep a close eye on your posts and on #stalker for more data. We can use flagging as a metric. We will probably start hiding and unhide someone in an ongoing way as they get upvoted or flagged. Mute will be provided but please don't see this as a very good first option, it really does not benefit everyone else if you mute instead of flag.

Please flag posts... It cost voting power but consider it a investment well spent. I suggest basically the same guidelines you'll find anywhere. If you see any of these we need to flag it. It makes is really easy to have a well defined list so the decision is really quick and not very subjective.

  1. Hate Speech
  2. Miss-categorization of content (spam) --- use good judgment
  3. Fraud (intentional plagiarism is deception)

To be clear, the plan is when someone goes below a threshold they can be hidden completely. You'll still have a way to show there comments and replies but it will be very tucked away at the very bottom of the thread..

U can click his name and mute his by urself . no need @ned or @dan to go down with this :) . take a chill pill . when you reach the highest peak someone always gonna try to push you back down . be strong stay strong !

mute function does not work.

the mute feature does nothing.

Then hide all his post just walk it off and be like Nobody aint got time for that

Muting and Following features are not yet implemented I think.

Hopefully they will be here soon , this beta site too heavy to load anyway .
Btw if any of you here notice my comment please visit my blog if you got some times. Thanks !

I think you are doing this post for attention

almost all her posts use some kind of victim card to gain sympathy and attention,
thats her nature and the essence of her strategy, and anybody with 3 working braincells can see this,
its just that most people wont say it not to be politically incorrect , like paul above,
with just reason, you do have to put your reputation on the line to do such thing in todays PC context.
Fortunately, people like you and me are around.

I don't consider it fortunate that I am around, but whetever

dude has no life

WHAT THE FUCK? So if men get spam it doesn't matter? WTF is wrong with some people....

of course it doesnt, we need safe spaces for women here
so that they can feel safe abusing this platform with all kind of conartistry,
the halo effect and anything they can come up with, because as you know we need women in this platform to make it go mainstream. Anything else is secondary.
Welcome to reality
