🐳 Food for thought # 20 - A needle in a haystack - How to find THE post? 🔷

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Weekend on its way, as busy a Steemian as we are, whose time is very limited and need to go through our feed, trending and hot sections. We do not want to miss the posts of the people that we follow. There is a reason that we are following certain Steemians and this is to keep in touch with them through the comments, encouraging each other, sharing with each other and celebrating achievements together.

Unable to find a prospective post among the new, hot or trending section? Are you following a resteem bot or service? Too many posts on your feed and you are not able to find something that you like? The answer to all those queries is very simple.

We have all read posts stating that finding great posts and upvoting them within the first 30 minutes allows for greater curation reward. We have all tried connecting with high-end authors on Steemit, leaving a comment hoping for some upvotes.

It is not always easy to find a post in your feed when following a bot or resteeming service. They are constantly resteeming new contents and the feed keeps getting longer and longer. How do you then find the posts of the Steemians you are following? All those who runs resteem services, don't be offended as I also use your service :)

The new, hot and trending section has articles which appear every second. You are still searching for articles and potential authors that you end up missing a huge chunk of posts. How do we get around such a situation.

SteemNow - Latest post feature

Already know the answer which is coming? Maybe you can find a useful strategy in what I am going to share :)

SteemNow is a very powerful tool, created by @penguinpablo which allows us to see our activities on Steemit, providing us data about potential payouts, curation and author rewards. It even has a calculator to help us determine our upvote worth based on the voting weight and the voting power. We can use this calculator to find the worth for other Steemians and bot services that we are using.

Among all these features there is one which is not very used. It allows us to search the trending, hot, new and feed section. All we have to do is input the criteria that we want and let the magic happen!

The information is well organised with the age of the post followed by reward and then the author together with the reputation. The title of the post is a clickable link which opens in a new window.

My posts: You can view all your posts which are currently active and the accumulated total reward.

My feed (home), new, hot, trending are all the different pages on the top of the Steemit page. The Blog is the recent posts from your own blog page.

How is this going to solve my problem of finding useful posts? Well you can filter all those feed pages by reputation and by payout.

I changed the Reputation filter above to 60 and hit enter. All posts from my feed has been filtered and only those whose reputation are 60 and above can be seen. You can compare it with the 1st screenshot and see the difference.

Above are all the posts that are appearing when applying the reputation filter on the new feed section and this is the same new feed without any filter, like it would appear on Steemit itself.

There is a big difference on the information which is presented and I hope you are seeing the same potential usage of this tool. All the information is concise in a one line with all the important information that we need in front of us as compared to the Steemit new section.

There is also the green arrows on the top right which allows for a faster refresh of the list as compared to Steemit since no images are loaded.

This looks unfair for us minnows

When we look at it from the perspective of whales filtering by higher reputation like 60 and above, then all of us below are not going to be visible to them. But on the other side, it allows us to interact mostly with Steemians among our reputations.

Then we should also be thinking like a whale and do the same thing and filter by high reputation but there is a catch the way I see it.

Think of it like this. If we want to get flagged for an inappropriate comment where would we prefer it to be? The big whale whose flag will make our own reputation go to negative or someone whose flag will probably not affect or reduce our reputation only 1 step down.

In this way by using this tool, it already tells makes us aware on what terrain we are going and we should be cautious. Everyone's time is invaluable and everyone is very busy and hence the need and purpose for quality.

Scared of the big whales? Haha they are really nice people as they respond when we talk with them. Just remember that we are here today with a low reputation and one day we will be there with a high reputation. Don't do things now that when others will be doing the same to us, we will feel annoyed in the future.

Do let me know if you found some useful information in this post in the comments below.
