5 Features Needed for Steemit Mass Adoption
1. Better UI design
The no.1 purpose of web-design is credibility. Basically anything less than a professionally designed user interface, will lose most of the site's credibility.
That’s why platforms like Medium managed to attract mainstream brands:
...And that’s also part of the reason why these brands wouldn’t even look at Steemit.
Compare these 2 profile UI designs. This one on the left is the Slack profile on Medium. The one on the right is @BookingTeam.com's profile here on Steemit.
So the first thing we need is an overall redesign of the UI: better profiles, better buttons, better typography, more white space, etc. And we need all that just for credibility.
2. Verified accounts badge
In order for Steemit to attract influencers and celebrities, it has to offer them protection against fake accounts. Right now there are plenty of Steemit users, impersonating celebrities.
How do I know this really is Scott Galloway? I don't... so should I follow him?
How would a celebrity differentiate him or herself from a fake account that's reaping all the rewards from their celebrity?
3. Multi-language support
There are many non-English speaking communities that would love Steemit. In fact we run a Romanian blog and we've crossed over to Steemit: @startupacademy. But after promoting it to our 15K subscribers, many of them complained that they don't speak English.
This is a problem for many influencers, that prevents them from bringing their audiences over.
And the user experience is not that great either. Multiple languages in the same feed could get really confusing.
4. A user-friendly way to cash out
Let's face it... cashing out of Steemit is a hassle. I understand the incentives to be invested long term, and I'm sold on that!
But an easy way to cash out would not only give new users more confidence in the platform, but it would also give influencers more confidence to invite their followers over from other platforms.
5. Official high-quality explainer videos
For Steemit to go mainstream, people need to get it. Fast! No second guessing... no doubts. That's why professionally produced explainer videos would be a game changer.
Remember the Dropbox video? If not, take a look.
That video was produced in 2009, and got over 25 million views. It is regarded as one of the primary reasons for Dropbox's mass adoption.
It explained a new concept at the time, and it did it clearly and effectively. That is what we need for Steemit. We have the budget, so let's do it!
We all love Steemit, and are trying to do what's best for the platform. This is just my feedback, and I do hope it is constructive.
The verified account as far as I know is already in place. And all the celebrities have to prove this when joining the platform (by posting steemit stuff on their already confirmed facebook, twiter accounts). No whale wants to pay for visibility, because this is the value of a celebrity in the platform without making sure it's the real guy.
And do they have something like this?
I think so. I don't have it as I was lazy and never done my verification but that should be it:) I read some time ago discussion on a celebrity page explaining how things are going in their case. No one cares I don't have the verification:))
I like the potential that can come from theses ideas.

Well, I don't know about celebrities and I don't care even if it is mandatory. About UI, it must be a change but medium is not the way
I understand your point of view. But now Steemit don't want more users because they have to many users daily (around 10000). And the witnesses cannot support yet this amount of users because unlike other platforms like medium it is a blockchain based. And with HF20 they will try to improve this part which is most important.
P.S. as you can see this platform is in beta. :)
They don't have to be implemented today :) It is for future reference.

who will vote Romanian content?
Corean people have a big communities with many whales because they invest milions of dollars and they exchange votes between them in order to make more money because in Coreea cryptocurrency is very popular and they already made cc by mining.
From all Romanians that I know here, 1-2 guys make @300$ per article and few of them invest money in order to have steem power to vote Romanian content.
I like your idea to bring many Romanians in this platform. For this reason I encourage my friends to join on Steemit and I made a bucharest meetup in other to set them real expectations. But I do that after 3-4 months when I understand that platform, because it's more complex that I was expected at the beginning.

I do NOT promise anybody they will earn $1000/day. It is a case study of how other brands/people do it. I clearly state that I don't believe they will make thousands of dollars.
I have over 15k subscribers on my website http://www.startupacademy.ro and I emailed all the subscribers, many of whoom have blogs in Romanian. Writing in English is your choice. Do not attempt to discredit writing in Romanian (plus I never say they should blog in Romanian).
You don't have to think it was healthy or not. Those "whales" voted for the fact that I promoted the Steemit platform very effectively. That article has over 1600 views and it is responsable for hundreds of new accounts.
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to discredit writing in Romanian language. The problem is that we as Romanians we don't have whales or at least dolphins to vote Romanian content, that is my concern.
And if we don't have them we should, first of all, to find/create a whale that is disposed to vote Romanian content. And then to create Romanian content. Otherwise, all those people who will start to wrote in Romanian language will become soon demotivated because their content will not be voted and they will leave the platform, and definitely this is not our purpose.

Maybe you should stop viewing Steemit as a money making opportunity, and start viewing it as a blogging platform.
If I have a blog on my own site and I don't make any money from it directly, and I start posting on Steemit and make $5 a post, I am better off.
But if on the other hand, I come here expecting to make hundreds of dollars, then those same $5 per post will demotivate me.

Ok. You're right about promisses. I'll correct my comment. Yes, is better to have few cents than nothing but you'll lose a lot on SEO side because steemit does not invest yet in SEO and from what I know they will not invest soon. I have only one article from Steemit on first 10 pages of google search. And on WordPress blog almost each article is on top 5 pages.
And I am really tempted to flag your comment for being disinformative. Do not appreciate it at all...
