Here We Go Again – Nine Days Later and More Mass Flagging

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Let me start off by saying that I would really prefer not to be doing this again. Having to deal with this idiocy is getting annoying and tiring to say the least. However I feel as though I have no choice but to defend myself and other users on this platform (mostly lower rated users) against this flagging abuse and the continual scamming of the platform by certain nefarious users. This will be the second post on this topic within a short period of time, and the last…that is guaranteed.

So, it’s only been nine days since I decided to write that post about a targeted mass flagging campaign. Yes mass flagging. Initially I thought it was just a random user, who had a problem with me specifically. As you can see from the original post below, I soon discovered that it was not the case.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@palikari123/targeted-flagging-of-posts-and-comments-from-accounts-heather2000-and-thinkingtime

These cowards will not let up with their stealthy sniper tactics to silence opinion. They even go to the extent of downvoting 5+ day old comments and trample all over people’s freedom of speech. This tactic is specifically designed to target and stifle growth of smaller accounts, in an attempt to frustrate and eventually drive away particular types of users from steemit.

Here are some other accounts that are joining in the fun of mass flagging comments and posts recently.

Do these statistics look like those of someone who respects free speech, and is using the flagging system on steemit in good faith, as it was intended to be used? Take note, these statistics are only for a period of 7 days.

Here are some more scammers who are part of the “sock-puppet circle jerk” network as described in an article written by @v4vapid.

@rewardpoolrape @galactic123 @whiteblood @echowizard @rahulislam @blueorgy79 @mithuj

Here is only one particular example of a post, where this practice is rampantly abusing the system.

Why is this allowed to continue over such a long period of time, without any type of repercussions or more importantly a solution to the problem, by those at the development level? Maybe this post by @ura-soul can shed some light on the mentality of at least one of those people in that capacity.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@ura-soul/just-so-we-re-clear-the-tech-manager-of-steemit-is-anti-democracy-and-pro-oligarchy-in-his-own-words

Apparently it's more important to lead by example, in censoring information you don't agree with, than addressing the real issues that many users are demanding be fixed. When that is the type of attitude at the top, of course you will have this type of behaviour being condoned and even encouraged by some at the top of the food chain!

Please spread this as far and wide as possible to make steemit a more user friendly environment for all, while allowing information and free speech to flourish.

Over and out on this topic..........

Ok folks…My apologies for not replying earlier to your comments. There may be some light at the end of the tunnel. I have managed to get the attention of someone within the steemit echo-system, who agrees that these organised mass flags are unwarranted. There is some work being done behind the scenes, to hopefully stamp this out. I have also been advised, not to engage in revenge attacks or flag wars with these accounts, as it will only make it worse and harm our cause. I hope there is some long term good news on all of this, so we can all just go back to enjoying content on here, without these annoying pests.

To everyone, if you have constant problems with flag abuse, this is a great starting point to make it known. You can also report any scams or scammers you may come across via this website.

https://steemcleaners.org/abuse-report/

Please follow the instructions carefully and include you user name, as they may possibly reverse any pending flags, with a counter vote to protect you and your free speech, if they feel it’s genuinely unwarranted flagging abuse. Please though, make sure any complaints, have real substance and is obvious abuse that can be verified with evidence.

If you would like to know of any others who are in the same boat, you can follow the account @freezepeach and it will keep you updated, on other possible flag abuse going on.

I will keep you updated on any new breakthroughs, and thanks for your support everyone!

And by the way, here is what happened after I posted this article:)

What you are doing is important, and i'm glad that you have the mindset to visualise these practices.
I really hope a different solution will be developed that is more user friendly and less time consuming.
And above all can not be used as a censorship tool like it was done in this case.

A BIG THANK YOU, for the time and energy you have put in to this, it is greatly appriciated, and that counts as a thank you as well on behalf of all the people who didn't even know they where targeted.

Maybe you could write a short article how you visualised this stuff. What sites did you use as tools etc.?

So that people have a few basic tools to have a quick look into their own data.

The more people know how to visualise this the sooner these practices can be stopped. This stuff may still be happening in other corners of this platform.

Thanks a lot for your nice comment. It's not really that big of a deal. All you need is a little time and patience. As you say, it's more about knowing what tools we all have at our disposal. You can thank the developers of those websites that I used. I have shown my appreciation, by voting them as witnesses.

Personally, I'm disappointed that you're going to stop posting on the subject. I wish you'd keep reporting on these abuses and their lack of platform attention. You're good at it. Thanks.

Don't be disappointed:) We are all just looking for solutions on this issue. I have a couple of ideas which I may share with you guys. Since I'm not a tech expert, I have no idea if these ideas are applicable or even logical in any way....I will throw them out there and let others be the judge on that. Anyway check out my long comment with regards to the flagging and possible good news.

@ninjapiraterobot @banjokid @somenick @roccofalcone @heather2000 @thinkingtime appear to be sock puppets of @galactic123, who also supposedly runs @echowizard

So, what to do next ?

We could get a little community together that downvotes every single post, comment and reply they make ? That may remove some of the incentive from their activity.

Might also need to counter their downvotes with equal upvotes for any post, comment or reply that they target.

Correct and well observed. Please check out my new comment, on some updates.

Well, I'll be damned...I'm glad I stopped by your page @palikari123. I didn't think much about it a week or so ago when my comment was downvoted twice by some goons on @caitlynjohnstone 's post. I didn't comment anything I could interpret as controversial so i was surprised (plus, it was my first downvote). Didn't think too much about it, I upped a few people on the post who only had the negatives and moved on with my day. I think it is awesome that you (and hopefully others) took the initiative to push on this issue.

As Steemit grows and takes on folks with a huge range of thoughts (especially in the politicosphere), it will be important that all voices are represented in the decentralized experience. Very important.

Thanks for stopping by @danielshortell. I'm glad you got some valuable information out of this post. There is actually a lot more of this going on than I realised initially. The whole thing is just a complete waste of time and energy for everyone involved and defeats the purpose of what this was all about in the first place. Instead of building everyone up, some people feel the need to tear others down, from a selfish point of view. Anyway, we'll just move on and see what happens. It would not surprise me one bit if it started again, because having a look at their voting history today, they are still mass flagging others. If you have any spare time, you might even want to take a glance at the original post of how and when this all started.

This is a good effort to help the other steemers who had a basic computer knowledge and know how to use but no expert in programming or building a software. The more we expose about this kind of acitvities its became more vulnerable to be attack by these people. They are the genius but unfortunately too lazy to put their interest in a positive way. have a nice day @palikari123.
I think these are some of them too..

Thank you for your input. Please check out my new comment, on some updates.
