Steemit's Fatal Flaw

in #steemit9 years ago (edited)

Don't get me wrong, I am migrating all my social networking to Steemit. Instead I will be sharing my Steemit blogs to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and a few other minor sites where I post. Hopefully, my "readers" will follow me here, and help me overcome Steemit's fatal flaw.

What is that flaw? Well, let's reason together shall we.

Lemmings are a curious animal. Every few years they gather together to commit mass suicide, by throwing themselves off cliffs into the ocean. It probably works for them, but for our purposes let's suppose that steemit users are lemmings headed toward that cliff. One upstart lemming named Minnow writes a post, "Stop! We are all going to die if we keep heading this way." Minnow is new to Steemit, and hasn't got many followers. Only a few of the other lemmings read his blog. After a few hours no one can even see Minnow's post and the lemmings scurry on towards certain death. An older and wiser lemming named Steve, figures out what's happening. He has been on Steemit for a while and has a number of followers. Steve hammers out a stern warning about their certain future in hopes of averting this tragedy. Unfortunately, they don't like this post. So they ignore it. One or Two popular lemmings even flag it for being such a drag and eventually even his post is unseen. In the end they all jump headlong into the ocean. The End

The moral of the story is that if you only upvote politically correct stuff that most of the people agree with, there is going to be huge blind spots in the conversation here on Steemit. Hard truths that we need to hear and acknowledge will be lost. Possibly disenfranchising huge groups of people that could add to culture, diversity, and utility of Steemit.

That's just my two cents,

God Bless

Good post.

I have been on steemit for a full week now. I can honestly say keep posting, good content does get noticed.

Hey thanks for sharing.
He calls himself a mini whale, he had a 49 rating. Is there an official scale somewhere? I would have supposed a whale even a mini whale would be closer to 100.
I have followed you @etcmike. please follow back.

The only scale I have seen is at the site: https://steemd.com/distribution
To view user ranks by Reputation, number of posts, post rewards, curation rewards, steem, steem power, steem dollars, and estimated value. There is a piggy bank symbol to mark those powering down. You can even search for yourself and see where you rank in the steemit community. Here is the website: http://steemwhales.com/?e=1

Finally there is a website for steem tools: http://steemtools.com/

Oh, I did add you as a follow.

Steem on,
Mike

I have yet to add my fb to steemit. considering.
