The case against steem power.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Facebook, Instagram, Google Plus, Tumblr, Twitter (etc) all have a system of likes where everyone's vote counts equally. And yet on steemit this doesn't happen. Take out the money element, and tell me honestly you think a system where different people's likes have more power would work on any other social media platform. Can you really see facebook implementing this – and hiding people's posts who get disliked by people who own all the liking power. And furthermore, can you see them doing this and retaining their users?

I don't think so. We need to wake up and get the developers to make a change.

We are the platform. We are the ones with the power. It's a social media platform, and it won't work if people don't use it to socialise.

For mass adoption to work, we need to be better than other social media networks. A system which allows certain people to promote their views more than others is a bad one.

For free speech, for the future of social media on the blockchain – we need to stop vested voting.

I up voted your post because you are trying to give value to your readers. Sadly you think this is merely a social media site. I note for you that members on other social media do not get paid for there activity. I also note for you that most other social media censors. I have never seen that happen here on Steemit. Steemit also allows you to purchase more usernames so that you can earn more curation points. So I give you a post you can read that might help you understand the steemit environment so that you can get more benefit out of your experience.

Steemit is a social media platform, which adds the element of payment to reward contributors. Also purchasing more usernames doesn't give you more curation rewards (1 big vote, or many small votes). Steemit may not censor content, but it certainly leads to smaller members being bullied by bigger members.

I can tell that if you clicked on the link I provided you didn't comprehend what I wrote. We are not children punishing each other around on a dance floor. All the information you need is present on every persons wall. Don't think that flagging someone is like disliking them on other social media cause it is not. Flagging someone is a direct assault on how much steem they make. If you flag someone you had better check and see if they have more voting power cause if they do you just harmed your own ability to make steem. Best get that if you don't like what someone is doing or think that it harms steem knowing who the witnesses are can save your own earning ability.

Stop thinking things have to be fair.
Stop thinking you are Dudley do right.
Stop thinking your opinion is the shit.
Stop viewing what you don't like.

"Also purchasing more usernames doesn't give you more curation rewards" Yep but the more accounts you have the more up votes you can give yourself which does raise your curation reward.

I 'll not try to help you again. If you don't write what I like I'll mute you.

I will try this one more time to help you. The following link is really to @masoncerritos original post that I gave you the link to in my first comment. The difference is that this link shows you what the curators here on steemit thought about the post. https://steemit.com/ocd/@ocd/operation-curation-delegation-daily-compilation-post-4
