Each share activates at 00:00 UTC on the next day (from the depositing date). Shares are tracked separately and expire after 29 days of upvotes. They can be mixed and matched at will. You will receive your bigger upvote some time tomorrow. Although, with the drop in STEEM price, the upvote might not be that much bigger as everybodys upvotes are smaller now :(
There are no maximum number of shares that one can buy. The value of all the shares are the same and are backed by the amount of delegated SP in the @minnowpowerup delegation pool.
Although, there is one "downside" to owning the majority of the shares - the need to make more posts per day. The bot does 10 full upvotes per day to maximize the full use of the pool. The more shares one own, the more posts they need to make to receive the full upvote power.
This is a moving target and depends on the total amount of shares all the users have bought in total. The number of total shares bought can be seen every day on the summary blog. So if You buy 50% of the shares, You have to make 5 posts every day to receive the full value.
