Hard Fork 19 Is Coming Down The Tracks! Here Is All You Need To Know Made Real Simple.

Forks ahead!

It appears that 13 of the current witnesses (the people who run Steemit) are running the new release candidate of Hard Fork 19. This is good news as it means were getting closer to mainstream adoption for the new hard fork. I personally estimate it will take place within the next 2-3 weeks - perhaps earlier.

So, what can we expect coming up in the new hard fork? [basically a Steemit software update if you haven't caught on already!]

#1. Voting power will not last as long as depletion occurs quicker

Put simply, after 10 power votes your voting power will start to deplete quicker, but it'll have 4x times the power it has right now. So if your vote is currently worth $0.06 it'll be worth $0.24 after the hard fork. Most people will scale back on their voting percentages by using the slide bar for adjustment.

This may also encourage people to sit in their own comments section all day long and just upvote for themselves at 100% for the first 10 votes. Time will tell??

#2. The reward algorithm is going to go linear

Put in simple terms this means whales are going to have less power, as their voting power is currently derived from their steem power on an exponential scale, so more SP meant more voting power. Switching to a linear model makes it all a more level playing field for everyone.

#3. The end of the whale flagging experiment

For months now there has been an experiment where whales have colluded to NOT downvote or flag other people's comments on their personal whims! But, this problem is still very much in existence with rebel whales. God bless them. Some of them still do a good job despite their rebellions! This process is known as flagging, and a solution to this flagging process is still ongoing ....

In conclusion

Be ready to steem on after the hard fork, as the Trending page may well see some changes for the better. The current jerk circle will slowly be eroded over time as a new middle class of steemian starts to emerge! BRAVO STEEMIT!! Steady as she goes. Steem on!

Good changes are cumming. Me happy!

I like that last statement @fminerten1 :)

Can't wait for this. I hope it's sooner, rather than later. Thanks for the great info!

Always a pleasure @vegansilverstack :)

This is such an awesome upgrade for Steemit. I can’t wait. Thank you for sharing the info. Also, I have a maybe silly question 😁: after the Hard Fork 19, do you know if Steemit will still work under the beta version?

Yes. It'll work in Beta for at least another 2-3 years yet :)

Oh wow! Things will be much better in this community by then... hopefully. Thank you again!

Lots of baby steps to go before Alpha yet @roxanad18 :)

Excited to see this in action, linear voting should make it awesome. Hate having 40 up votes and 7 cents

Prepare for the x4 fold upvotes @lukinsawyer! :)

I am going to be soo.. lonely with all my SP... so... lonely... boohoo... boohoo...$$$

Stop crying and goto your room now Justin!!

flaggin' and 'bots are the two major issues facing Steemit right now that I can see.

Correct Everitt. We'll get there in time I'm sure ....

Was reading last week an article about proof of work (POW, such as Steem tokens) against a new idea of proof of human work (POH). The simplest example of POH that we are all familiar with is Captchas; they are considered POH because easy for humans but hard for bots. That's one simple way to solve the voter bots issue... assuming it's an issue!

I consider it to be an issue.
those who are profiting from it consider it to be a feature.
I've been told that
baffle-gab....geek-speak...yadda yadda....
won't work on the block chain.

The auto voting has to be controlled. I don't believe in bot voting. If you weren't around for new content then you deserve zero curation benefits.

my thoughts exactly
curation means
" I read this thang and I like it (or not)"
bots are NOT curationg.
They're just cream separators
taking the 'good stuff' off the top.

It does separate the wheat from the chaff. Totally opposed to bot voting at 17 minutes after my whale friend's blog is posted. That's not community.

Sub-communities could help this. Less people would flag posts they care about.

You are sharp today qa - commmunity impressive words :)

How about nsfw content? I have nothing against freedom of speech, but maybe this kind of content should be opt-in rather than opt-out.

there's a tag.
the only time you'll see NSFW is if you want to.
if you see something you don't like
Mute the author.
you'll never see anything from him again.

That content is only kind of hidden. To hide it completely, you have to change your settings. My idea is to hide nsfw content completely by default. In other words, you would opt in to show it rather than the other way around.

I don't really care that much about the issue as far as my personal viewing habits are concerned. I'm more concerned about other people that I might recommend Steemit to. As it is, I have to be kind of hesitant about it because of the porn issue. Some people will freak out if there is even a small probability that their kids might see some porn.

ever hear the term
mind your own business?
the content is hidden ENOUGH
if someone wants to see it they can
NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS

Faster depletion may help level the playing field.

2 weeks and I've managed to not piss off any whales, or was that the no flagging experiment?

Probably the no flagging experiment ;)

Esp as a minnow, can't wait.. cool there will b a power slide bar added also.

Good luck with the power slide bar @wilx :)

There is already a functioning power slide bar within chainBB - I assume it works - it looks like it work!

Tnx yeah I've seen it and used it it'll def b a welcome addition to the reg steemit site.

Change is good.

Yes.

Short and sweet LOL.

Agreed @rgeddes

First Jays pitch today on the EARLY game goes after 3:30 from Oakland, just a reminder.

Thankfully... I have watched the last couple - but it gets pretty late... the west coast games must be tough on those guys...

Seattle is up next and I am sure they are used to it with their travel schedules and life on the road, I have always wondered a bit too.

I never think to ask my friends who have played pro stuff like this, it is usually just other life stuff since I do not see them as pro players as much as just people I know I think.

Have a good day man!

Josh just hit the 2 run homer with Pillar on, from the HBP, to go up in the 10th! Get up ball, and goooooneeeeeeeeee

LOL

#BuckMartinez

Theres still a lot of baseball right... ;)

Jays are headed into extra's in Ricky Henderson Field in Oakland.

IDK it was renamed that until last nite

LOL

Seattle is up next on the left coast so good times, let's hope.

Devon Travis injury is the latest mess with this legendary season of losing a million games by starters and pitchers, to injury

It is beyond ridiculous and the halfway point is not in sight yet.

Nonsense.

I'm new in steemit, going on 2 weeks. Why don't you eliminate self voting. when I post, a self vote registers , thou I didn't intend it to..Why have self voting in the first place??
